5-meter homemade wind generator. Rear of the rotor

So, the next step is to screw the back of the rotor to the flange (hub). And again I warn you to be careful, because. the magnetic force of the rotor is very high!

5-meter homemade wind generator. Hub with a rotor on a frame

Next, we lubricate all working parts and mount the hub with the rotor on the windmill frame. Then we can center the axle and insert the cotter pin into the nut that holds the axle.

5-meter homemade wind generator. Stator installation

We install the stator so that the gap between it and the rear rotor is about 2 mm.

5-meter homemade wind generator. Rotors and stator assemblies

In the picture above, you can see the front part of the rotor planted and the three bolts that we used to tighten it. The rotors, relative to each other, must be aligned in the magnetic field: the south pole of the front rotor must be opposite the north pole of the rear rotor. When we aligned them, we based them on the labels that we set in advance.

5-meter homemade wind generator. Frame generator

We are almost done with the windmill except for the woodwork.

5-meter homemade wind generator. Wind turbine blades

The windmill blades were made for me by my friend and neighbor Scott. He has his own woodworking workshop. We didn't bother much with the shape of the blades. The width of the blades at their ends is 150 mm, in the widest part of the blades (at the base) the width is about 350 mm. The blade length is about 2 m, which gives a wind turbine diameter of about 5 meters. The blades at the ends have a slope of 3 degrees, and in the middle - 6. The front part of the blades is absolutely flat, this was done on a planer.

5-meter homemade wind generator. blades

In the photo above, you can see the tips of the blades having a simple aerodynamic shape. At the ends of the blades, the thickness is about 20 mm, in the middle 40 mm and at the base it reaches 50 mm.

5-meter homemade wind generator. Blade hub

The blades will be placed between two hubs (flanges) made of plywood, 20 mm thick. Hub diameter - 660 mm.

5-meter homemade wind generator. Assembly of the hub and blades

Next, I painted the blades and covered them with a thick layer of linseed oil. Then installed them. Each of the blades will be pulled together with a hub with 3 bolts. A total of 9 bolts.

5-meter homemade wind generator. Blade positioning

In the picture above, we measure the distances between the ends of the blades for their correct installation. After everything was put out, the blades were pulled together with the hub with bolts and additional screws. 15 screws per side, 90 screws in total.

Photos of the manufacture of the tail of the windmill, I forgot to do. The tail of the wind generator is arrow-shaped, about 60 cm wide, 130 cm long. It is made of very strong 60mm thick plywood. Painted black and well smeared with linseed oil. The tail is bolted to the tail boom with four bolts.

On this, the design of the wind generator is completed.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

The silence of the crickets 05.04.2007

Field crickets living on the Hawaiian island of Kauai have largely stopped making sounds.

The fact is that the song of a cricket is intended to attract a female, but small parasitic flies flock to the sound, laying their testicles on the cricket, from which larvae emerge, devouring the singer. Therefore, in 90% of crickets, the shape of the edges of the wings has changed in recent years. The crickets continue to rub their wings against their legs, but there is no sound.

Apparently, this is the result of natural selection: males with normal wings make sounds and therefore often die from parasites. The survey showed that 30% of singing crickets and only 0% of silent crickets were infected with parasites.

How then do silent crickets reproduce? They find a singing brother and intercept females from him, entomologists believe, two scenarios are possible: either the singing insects will completely disappear and the entire population will die out after them, or some balance will be established. Silent crickets survive better, but singing crickets reproduce more actively. Meanwhile, parasitic flies are becoming less and less, as it is increasingly difficult for them to find prey.
