In the struggle with cultivated plants for a place under the sun, weeds, alas, win. They make their way even where nothing grows. Leave a pile of sand unattended - time will pass, and it will overgrow with an indestructible herbage. Is it possible to force the weeds to compensate the earth for what they have taken! It turns out you can. For example, make compost or liquid fertilizer out of them - excellent fertilizers for cultivated plants, "vitamins" for the soil.

Compost is prepared in so-called compost heaps. This is a biochemical reactor, where, under the influence of heat, water and air, plant residues are converted into substances rich in nutrients.

How to build a home biochemical reactor? Choose a small area on the site away from residential buildings and preferably on the sunny side. Fill it with a five-centimeter layer of sand, in extreme cases, lay branches. Lay out the first layer of weeds with a thickness of 20-30 cm in the form of a circle with a diameter of at least a meter. In order not to carry weeds around the garden, you need to skillfully lay them. Those that reproduce mainly by roots should be placed with the tops outward, and those that are seeds, on the contrary. Lay all subsequent layers with a seal along the edge in the form of a thick donut, as shown in fig. 1. Now you can demolish kitchen waste here, except for bones, they should be burned and scattered along with the ashes on the ground. As a rule, moisture coming from rains and food remains is not enough in dry, hot summers. Therefore, it is necessary to periodically add water to the drying up "reactor", and cover it with mowed grass to preserve moisture from above. Of course, beware of draining the water after washing.

Rice. 1. A compost heap is formed from cut weeds and manure, laying them in layers

Carefully laid layers should not be shoveled. Decaying biomass releases so much heat that even weed roots rot. And the platform itself under it is enriched with nutrients, and, having dug it up, you will get a bed free from weeds and already fertilized. By moving the "reactor" every year, you can gradually weed and fertilize new areas of your site.

If you manage to buy fresh manure, then you can make a puff "pie": 20 cm of weeds, 20 cm of manure, and so on, and the top layer should be from plant residues.

The compost of the current year can only be used to fill planting holes for fruit trees, but after a thorough sorting, there are still many viable roots and seeds in it. It is even better not to touch until spring. During the winter, the compost settles, dries up, and in the spring it becomes overgrown with grass. Now remove the top layer, shake it off well and transfer it to the place where you have marked a new bookmark. Do not spare a few hours, carefully select all the surviving roots. They will dopreyut in a new place. By the end of summer, you will receive ready-made fertilizer. But even better is compost at the end of the third season.

And from the "reactor" - a repeater, you can arrange a flower garden. Transfer the sorted last year's compost to the recreation area and fold it into a hill, on top of which plant 5-7 nasturtiums. These annual flowers, when well nourished and watered, produce large decorative leaves and bright yellow-red flowers.

In mid-August, when the weather is dry, spread the nasturtium sticks and scoop a sample of the compost. A well-rotted homogeneous mass crumbles easily in the hands and smells pleasantly in autumn summer...

Liquid top dressing is one of the undeservedly forgotten methods of nourishing cultivated plants. It can replace all other fertilizers for a vegetable garden and a flower garden. We'll tell you how to cook it.

Place a large tank or barrel in a sunny spot. Lay the cut grass and weeds there, pour water to the top, tighten with plastic wrap (see Fig. 2). Fasten the film with a rope or an elastic band, pierce 3-4 small holes for air and leave to ferment for 8-10 sunny days. If the weather is bad, the wait will, of course, be longer. In the end, in the tank you will see what happens to be observed in a vase of flowers left unattended for a long time: the water will turn into a yellowish-greenish liquid with blades of grass soaked to stickiness and not the most pleasant smell. Liquid feed is ready! It is best used in the evening watering. To a watering can with ten scoops of water, add one scoop of liquid - this concentration is the most nutritious and will not burn tender young sprouts. Fill the remaining greens in the tank with water again and water with this solution the next day. And spread the sticky greens on the near-stem circles of fruit trees or berry bushes. The tank is ready for the next load.

Rice. 2. Liquid fertilizer is prepared in a barrel of grass clippings, weeds and water. Get a few barrels and you will have a real conveyor.

You can use multiple tanks. Loading each subsequent one in 3-4 days, you will get a conveyor production.

At the beginning of summer, healthy fruit trees and berry bushes give a rapid growth of annual shoots. By the end of August, their green branches should become woody, otherwise they will freeze in the cold. Observe if the growth by the end of warm June is less than ten centimeters - this is a signal that the plants are not doing well. Throughout July, they need to be fed once a week, and in hot, dry weather, even twice, but with a more dilute solution. And in August-September, liquid top dressing will no longer go to plants for the future. This is the time now, but we hope our tips will help you in the future.

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Crystals with DNA of the willing will be sent to the moon 19.10.2022

Space Crystals LLC plans to crystallize a client's DNA in space and deliver these stable crystals to the surface of the Earth's satellite using lunar landers. Space Crystals has booked payload space for its first such delivery on a lander in 2023, the company said.

The technology, backed by commercial space company Waypoint 2 Space and founder Kevin Heath, costs customers $150 and is designed to "sustain existence in the universe." The concept involves infusing two crystal solutions with the client's DNA and then launching the solutions into space to become "two separate and unique crystals".

The technology is unique and patent pending, and space crystals say that implanting crystal DNA into space has never been done before. The microgravity conditions that spaceflight provides allow crystals to grow into unique shapes during each mission, rather than the permanent shapes seen on Earth. The crystals are then returned to the planet: one is given to the client and the other is re-launched into space, but this time to the moon, along with a "time capsule" containing 1 gigabyte of the client's personal data.

Scientists don't yet know which lunar lander Space Crystals will use for its debut flight to the moon next year. There are several options under the NASA Commercial Lunar Payloads Services (CLPS) program. CLPS is designed to support science and the NASA-led Artemis program, which aims to land astronauts on the moon in the late 2020s.
