The concept of alternative biofuel powder makes it possible to replace traditional liquid motor fuel with cheap and environmentally friendly free-flowing microcrystalline cellulose powder.

Powdered firewood as an alternative motor fuel

The ever-growing shortage of oil and the environmental problems caused by fossil fuels are forcing us to look for a replacement for petroleum fuel. The most affordable alternative to traditional fuel is biofuel, which is obtained from plant fiber, which consists mainly of cellulose, a natural polysaccharide that serves as the supporting skeleton of plants.

The natural increase in biomass is ten times higher than the consumption of fossil fuels, but, unlike oil, plants absorb carbon dioxide from the air to grow, so burning biofuels does not cause the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Solid granulated biofuel for power plants, boiler houses and fireplaces - "Pellets" - is made from vegetable fiber. But motors of cars cannot run on granular solid fuel, this is its big drawback.

Liquid motor fuel is obtained from fiber, mainly alcohols - "Bioethanol" and "Methanol" by fermentation and thermal decomposition - "Pyrolysis". But due to high costs, the production of liquid biofuels is on the verge of profitability at average oil prices. If cars could run on solid fuel, this would solve the problem of switching to renewable fuel, stimulating the ruble to abandon oil.

Steam engines can run on solid fuels, but not automobiles.

There were attempts to adapt cars to traditional solid fuel in the USSR. During the war, many cars were equipped with wood-fired pyrolysis boilers; there were modifications of machines with steam engines.

As practice has shown, the mass and dimensions of pyrolysis boilers or steam furnaces are not suitable for cars, automotive fuel systems should be light and compact.

Theoretically, internal combustion engines can run on solid fuel in the form of a fine powder fed into the cylinders.

A piston engine can operate on powder fuel as well as on liquid fuel, provided that it is efficiently atomized and burns quickly.

Traditional wood flour is too loose and viscous for automotive fuel systems, but the so-called powdered fuel is excellent. "Microcrystalline cellulose" is an intermediate product of cellulose hydrolysis that can be formed into a dense, free-flowing powder.

Powdered firewood as an alternative motor fuel

Powdered fuel can be atomized using the "Gas Jet Spray System", which atomizes and ignites the fuel with jets of hot compressed air. The advantages of a gas-jet spray system include the ability to spray with equal efficiency both solid powder fuel and any combustible liquid, gasoline, diesel fuel, oil, crude oil, water-oil or water-oil emulsions, alcohols and their aqueous solutions. This allows you to create on its basis a universal multi-fuel engine.

Powdered biofuels are two to three times cheaper than traditional liquid fuels. It is affordable and environmentally friendly.

The proposed concept of powder motor biofuel is an alternative direction that allows creating a "green" fuel industry that can compete with oil.

Powdered firewood as an alternative motor fuel

Microcrystalline cellulose "MKTs" can be used not only as a fuel, but also as a raw material for the production of cheap "green" polymers, as an inert filler in the production of polymers, as a component of building and finishing mixtures, and as a raw material for the chemical industry.

MCC powder is more convenient for transportation and industrial use than traditional solid vegetable raw materials, wood waste or straw.

MCC can constitute an alternative to oil as a fuel and chemical raw material as an environmentally friendly renewable hydrocarbon resource.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Memory 1000 times faster and more durable than flash 15.06.2016

Intel will begin manufacturing SSDs under the new Optane brand in Q2016 3. The devices will be NVMe-enabled and designed to connect to a four-lane PCI Express XNUMX bus.

The devices will be designed for both consumer and corporate markets. The former will be codenamed Mansion Beach, the latter will be Stony Beach.

Tentatively in the first quarter of 2017, Intel plans to release PCI Express 3-enabled Brighton Beach drives with two. lines. And no earlier than mid-2017 - update Mansion Beach and introduce a new generation of Optane drives for the enterprise market, codenamed Carson Beach. Carson Beach devices are planned to be implemented in BGA form factor, in addition to M.2.

Optane drives are based on the 3D XPoint memory technology announced by Intel jointly with Micron Technology in July 2015. Partners claim 3D XPoint has 1 times the speed and 10 times the endurance of flash like NAND, which is ubiquitous in modern electronics, and XNUMX times more dense than today's computer memory.

Instead of using transistors, as in NAND memory, 3D XPoint memory uses cells made of a material that changes its physical properties when an electric current passes through it. Such memory is also called phase memory. It is non-volatile like flash, but faster than NAND and cheaper to manufacture than DRAM, which is used in RAM.
