Today, hundreds of interesting designs have been invented that use solar energy. We introduced some of them to our readers. But, as a rule, they are overall, mounted in a permanent place, in a word, as engineers say, they are stationary. Petkovich's water heater can be taken with you on the road - loaded onto the trunk of a car and taken to the dacha, taken on an expedition or hike. And how convenient! Round the clock - hot water!

Look at fig. 1 - below is a schematic diagram of a water heater. As you can see, nothing complicated. A solar collector with an area of about a square meter (it is painted black) absorbs solar heat and heats water in a coil. As you know, the density of warm water is less than cold water - it rises and pours into a tank with a capacity of 110 liters. The only condition is to prevent the formation of air pockets and bubbles in the system where water circulates. But this is easy to do - just fill the tank up to the neck.

And now we will tell you how to make a water heater. Let's start with the tank - the most time-consuming part. Select the appropriate dimensions - length, width and height and unfold. It is advisable to make it from a whole sheet. Provide an allowance of 20-25 mm wide on the joined sides. Then transfer the scan to a sheet of galvanized iron, cut and bend. For complete tightness, solder the joints as carefully as possible. If it is not possible to cut the tank from a whole sheet, use two. True, then the fit is more difficult.

The coil is assembled from thin-walled steel or copper tubes with an outer diameter of 15-18 mm. Individual links are interconnected by soldering.

It is better to solder the tubes along the entire length to the collector - a sheet of galvanized iron - for greater thermal conductivity.

The casing of the water heater is made of multilayer plywood with a thickness of at least 10 mm. When cutting it, consider the layer of thermal insulation. It should be 45-50 mm thick. It is easier to connect plywood sheets into a spike, having previously lubricated the surfaces to be joined with epoxy glue.

When the glue dries, put thermal insulation (slag or glass wool) in the casing and install the tank, manifold and pipes inside. To keep all this metal reinforcement inside the casing firmly, secure it with metal corners.

In order for the water heater to have a neat appearance, the outer surface must be thoroughly sanded: first with coarse, then with fine sandpaper. Water resistance will give a coating of oil varnish in 2-3 layers.

For greater efficiency, the front of the casing is covered with glass. To keep the glass in the casing securely, use wooden glazing beads. Don't forget to put thin porous rubber bands under them.

The fastening of the supporting elements completes the work. Due to the fact that the rear support element can be moved, it is easier to adjust the angle of the water heater in relation to the sun. Remember that the sun's rays must fall on the surface of the collector at a right angle.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Medical Application for Selfies 07.04.2017

Researchers have proposed using selfie to determine the early stage of some specific diseases, the signs of which are reflected on a person's face. Among them is di George's syndrome, which provokes deformation of the facial bones, which can be treated with drugs containing calcium.

A group of scientists from the National Human Genome Research Institute proposed using selfie for specific medical purposes. We are talking about the possibility of diagnosing some extremely rare diseases from a photograph of a patient. This is especially true for di George's syndrome, which manifests itself in the deformation of organs, in parallel provoking a high risk of fungal, viral and bacterial infections.

With the help of a special electronic device that detects the presence of a rare disease from a photograph of a face, specialists using selfies will be able to track the development of the disease, monitoring its progress and suppressing it with special medicines containing calcium.
