You will need:

Tools: compass, utility knife, nail, hot glue gun, ruler, pencil.

Materials: white glue, corrugated cardboard, magnets (diameter 1". sparse, grounded, 4), washers (4).

Wind turbine. Rotor

1. Using a compass, draw two circles with a diameter of 12 cm on cardboard or foam board.

Wind turbine. Rotor

2. Use a utility knife to cut out these circles to make discs out of cardboard.

Wind turbine. Rotor

3. Use craft glue to glue the two large disks together. (Tip: If you are using corrugated cardboard, position the grooves on the discs so that they are perpendicular to each other, which will increase the rigidity of the rotor disc).

4. Using a ruler, mark one side of the rotor disk with perpendicular lines. Make sure the two lines are 90 degrees. Use a geometric rectangle or corner of the paper to help you place the second line.

5. Poke a hole through the center of the rotor disc with a nail.

6. Hot glue four bumper washers to the disc, centering them over the lines and placing their edges against the edge of the disc. Tip: Make sure the washers are clean and free of any grease or dirt, otherwise they may not stick to the disc.

7. Carefully separate your magnets by sliding them out of the set one at a time.

8. Carefully place a magnet on each washer with the same facing pole facing up (north or south). On many magnets, the red dot represents the north pole.

9. Tip: If you are not sure about the polarity of the magnets, you can use a magnetic compass to confirm that all magnets are either north or south.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

There are more microbes in a man's beard than in dog hair 19.04.2019

A man's beard is a receptacle for a huge number of microbes, including potentially dangerous ones. There are more of them in it than in the coat of dogs that are taken out for a walk on the street.

It all started when researchers at the Hirslanden Medical Center in Switzerland decided to find out how clean MRI scanners are in regular hospitals. This interest was not accidental. PMRI equipment is periodically used to examine animals, since veterinary clinics do not have their own scanners for various reasons.

It turned out that the devices that were sometimes used to examine dogs were cleaner than those used only for procedures with people.

After that, experts took swabs from the face of 18 men and from the neck of 30 dogs of different breeds, then comparing the microbial composition of the samples. As a result, they stated: in humans, bacterial "pollution" is more significant than in animals.

According to the lead author of the project, Professor Andreas Guzeit, out of 30 domestic dogs that are regularly taken outside, microbes were found in 23 in small quantities. In turn, among the bearded men aged 18 to 76 participating in the study, a high the level of microbes in the hairline was recorded in absolutely everyone. As for potentially dangerous microorganisms, they were found in 7 out of 18 men (38%) and in 4 out of 30 dogs (13%).
