Video games on the real world map

By 2015, Google plans to transfer to video game developers all the tools necessary to use maps in computer games. Google Vice President and founder of the Google Earth project John Hanke (John Hanke) announced the intention of Google within a year to provide game developers with access to real map data.

The corresponding statement was made at the DICE Summit conference of leading video game manufacturers and was part of the story about the multiplayer online game Ingress, created by Niantic Labs. John Hanke confirmed that Google will start working with a select group of developers this year. The goal of this work is to create by 2015, based on the experience of using real geographic data in Ingress, a package of software tools for developing games with real geographic environment.

Google's initiative will bring games to reality. Ingress allows you to collect fictional "exotic energy" in the real world using Android smartphones. Virtual battles between two opposing sides take place in the real world, but with a fictional plot and non-existent artifacts. Such video games will become more widespread and attract millions of users as augmented reality technologies develop, for example, such as video glasses that project an image directly over the human field of view.

Currently, global sales of games for computers, consoles and mobile platforms have reached tens of billions of dollars a year, and this market is constantly expanding. The advancement of modern geographic information services, such as Google Earth, into the gaming industry opens up new opportunities for game developers to improve gameplay and attract new players. In addition, online games that develop in a real environment can be used for a variety of studies: from marketing to, for example, studying the efficiency of transport infrastructure.
