For some reason, engineers involved in the development of wind turbines ignore the simplest, most economical and promising wind turbines - wind turbines with a vertical axis.

Many, probably, saw instruments for measuring wind speed - anemometers. Each of them is a tachometer, on the measuring axis of which a light impeller is installed - a cruciform rotor with four hemispheres at the ends of the cross. The invaluable advantage of such a device is its independence from the direction of the wind. True, such rotors have an extremely low efficiency, however, there are designs with a much higher value of this most important parameter of any machine. In particular, one of the simplest, most efficient and technologically advanced windmills of this type is the long-known wind generator, which consists of two half-cylinders offset relative to each other, as shown in our figures.

In an attempt to explain this strange dislike of designers to units with a vertical axis of rotation, A. S. Abramov made and tested several operating models of rotary wind turbines - all of them showed good performance and reliability in operation. And comparative tests with bladed windmills show that rotary ones are no worse and, moreover, they have a characteristic feature: they can work even in light winds, which bladed wind turbines are deprived of.

In our figure - one of the operating models of a rotary wind generator; it is made from a large tin can and spins a bicycle dynamo. For those who want to repeat this homemade product, we will tell you: many of its parameters are selected empirically - in particular, the dimensions of the half-cylinders, the amount of displacement of one relative to the other, the width of the slot.

On the basis of such a simple model, it is possible to construct a full-size wind generator with half-cylinder blades made of plastic, duralumin, or even plywood.

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. New Kingmax memory cards record 4K2K video 17.03.2014

4K2K ultra-high-definition video is starting to take over the market, driving the demand for removable media that fits in size and speed. In a rush to meet this need, Kingmax has added SDXC and SDHC formats to the PRO Extreme series of memory cards, which far exceed the requirements of the UHS-I Speed Class 3 specification.
