Unified power modules of small HPPs are designed both for power supply to isolated consumers of electricity, and for power output to the power system.

To select the type and parameters of small HPPs, specialists can carry out preliminary design and survey work.

The output voltage of the generator and the current frequency can be changed at the request of the Customer.

The composition of the unified module

The energy module (Fig. 1.1) includes: 1 - axial hydraulic machine of the PL-G series; 2 - multiplier; 3- alternator; 4 - S - shaped suction pipe.

Next to the hydraulic unit there are cabinets for the thyristor excitation system and a static power frequency converter and a cabinet for generator outputs, control equipment and relay protection. All equipment (except units with impellers with a diameter of 1500 mm) is placed on a unified platform (frame). Energy modules, in this case, do not exceed the size of the container and can be transported by rail and highway.

An updated nomenclature of hydraulic units was obtained as a result of complex tests on a model of a hydraulic unit with a diameter of the impeller D1=250 mm.

Horizontal rotary-blade (propeller) hydraulic units PL (Pr) - G for small HPPs are offered in six main modifications: 25; 35; 50; 100; 120; 150 and are designed to use the energy of the watercourse with working heads from 2 to 20 m and flow rates from 0,25 to 1,5 m3/s. The power developed by one unit, depending on the type of unit, ranges from several kW to 1 MW or more.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Treatment of infections with electric current 03.11.2019

The original method, developed by scientists from the Swanson School of Engineering (SSOE) at the University of Pittsburgh (USA), is designed to treat infections caused by metal implants. The researchers suggest using electrochemical therapy to increase the ability of antibiotics to kill microbes.

Titanium has many properties that make it a suitable material for implants: low density, high stiffness, high biomechanical strength-to-weight ratio, and corrosion resistance. Today, different types of implants are made from titanium: from dental to joint prostheses. However, there is a persistent problem with metal implants: their surface is an ideal place for germs to accumulate, causing chronic infections and inflammation in the surrounding tissue. So, about five to 10 percent of dental implants fail and must be removed within 10-15 years so that the infection does not spread to the blood and other organs.

Added to this is the "crisis of antibiotics": many microbes develop resistance to certain drugs. Scientists at the University of Pittsburgh have found a way to help antibiotics fight infectious diseases.

The essence of their method is that a weak electric current is passed through a metal implant. The charge damages the cell membrane of the microbe attached to the implant, while not damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. Damage increases the permeability of the bacterial cell, making the microbe more susceptible to antibiotics. Most antibiotics usually target cells that will proliferate and bypass dormant, dormant microbes - which can cause infections to recur. Electrochemical therapy causes stress in all microbial cells, including sleeping ones.

The researchers tested their technology against Candida albicans (C. albicans), one of the most common and harmful fungal infections associated with dental implants.
