The legal foundations of military service are: the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the Federal Laws "On Defense", "On the Status of Servicemen", "On Military Duty and Military Service".

The legislation of the Russian Federation on defense issues is based on the Constitution of the Russian Federation, which establishes that the defense of the Fatherland is the duty and obligation of a citizen.

The Constitution of the Russian Federation gives the President of the Russian Federation the right to:

1) form and lead the Security Council of the Russian Federation;

2) approve the military doctrine of the Russian Federation;

3) appoint and dismiss the high command of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The President of the Russian Federation is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and, in the event of aggression against the Russian Federation or an immediate threat of aggression, introduces martial law on the territory of the country or in its individual areas. 4) the purpose of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, their recruitment and leadership, the functions of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff;

5) basic provisions - state of war, martial law, mobilization, civil defense, territorial defense;

"On the status of servicemen" defines the rights, duties and responsibilities of servicemen, the basis for the legal and social protection of servicemen.

The procedure for organizing military registration of citizens, preparing for military service, conscription for military service and its passage are defined in the Federal Law of the Russian Federation "On Military Duty and Military Service".

The daily activities of military personnel, their life, way of life, performance of service, preparation for the performance of official duties are regulated by charters, subdivided into combat and general military, establishing provisions common to all types of the Armed Forces that determine the relationship between military personnel, their general and official duties and rights, the procedure for carrying out internal, garrison and guard services. General military charters include: the Charter of the internal service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Disciplinary Charter of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Charter of the garrison and guard services of the Armed Forces.
