Solar heat is accumulated in the tank due to the fact that hot water is stored in it. Tanks vary in size. All of them are connected to the inlet pipe for cold water and the outlet pipe for hot water, as well as to the circulation pipes. The most efficient is a vertical tank with a temperature gradient along the height, while the cold water at the inlet does not mix with the hot water at the top of the tank. In the presence of a horizontal tank, the system performance is reduced by 10-20%.

The heat from the solar collector is transferred to the water in the tank using a heat exchanger. As a heat exchanger, a coil is usually used at the bottom of the tank or a shell around the tank with the heat transfer fluid. In systems with natural circulation and low liquid flows, a sheath is usually used. In the case of low flows, the heat transfer fluid flows slowly through the shell of the storage tank, which makes it possible to achieve a temperature gradient of the fluid in the shell in accordance with the distribution in the tank. This improves heat transfer, which means that efficiency increases compared to traditional systems.

The storage tank must be well insulated so that the water in it does not cool down at night. Heat loss depends on many factors (air temperature, wind, season, etc.) and is about 0,5-1 degrees Celsius per hour during the night. The insulation of the tank must be so reliable that the water heated on a sunny day remains hot for two days. Particular attention should be paid to the insulation of the upper part of the tank and the absence of thermal bridges. Experience shows that the minimum thickness of the layer of insulating material should be 100 mm.

It must be ensured that the system of pipes connected to the tank does not allow spontaneous circulation, due to which it can become empty, even if hot water has not been used. The hot water drain pipe must be connected to the cold water pipes and to the top of the tank. The outlet of the storage tank is equipped with a maximum temperature regulator so that the consumer receives water with a temperature not higher than, for example, 60

The volume of the storage tank of the solar installation should be 80 liters per person, with a consumption of hot water of 50 liters per day. These are average values. If the house has a dishwasher or washing machine, if there are several children who take a bath every day, these needs should also be taken into account when calculating the total water consumption.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Music for aliens 01.08.2018

For people, music is a unique kind of creativity that can become a real language of communication. Recently, experts decided to send a musical message into space, which, of course, no one has done. One of the scientists even created music for the aliens.

The idea to send music into space belongs to a new art project called Intergalactic Omniphonic. Its author is the philosopher Jonathon Keats.

The researcher suggested that the sounds received from space could be alien music. Based on this, he decided that the aliens love and appreciate music. Alien music is not the kind that earthlings are used to, although its principle is similar.

Jonathon Keats bought a uranium glass marble and also a dial with a radius. He connected all this with wires. The principle of operation of the device is such that the wooden handle of the bell rises and releases high-energy radioactive gamma radiation. Thanks to the design, sounds are sent into space.

The scientist then bought ultrasonic dog whistles and turned them into some kind of ultrasonic organ. A person cannot hear the music published, but alien ears can be sensitive to it.

One of Keats' musical instruments was the gravitational cello. It consists of a steel ball that hangs from the end of a wooden shaft. The scientist swings the ball, creating special gravitational waves, the existence of which was announced in 1916 by Einstein, and in 2015 they were first discovered. They were the result of the merger of two black holes.

Now Keats is going to create a kind of "universal anthem", which will be based on the laws of thermodynamics.
