Modern wind turbines are reliable machines that convert wind energy into electricity very efficiently. Therefore, the main question that the consumer asks himself is: "Can I use wind turbines in the place where I live." The answer to this question depends on a number of factors, which will be discussed in the following sections. However, the first question to be answered is: "Are the wind speeds high enough for the application of wind turbines in the chosen location?". It is possible to establish those regions of the country where there are sufficient wind energy resources using wind atlases.

Knowing the average annual wind speed in the region, you can proposed methodology approximately determine the amount of electrical energy that can be generated by wind turbines during the year.

More accurate calculation methods require a significant amount of additional information and must be carried out by specialists. Employees of "Intersolarcenter" can perform work on the determination of wind energy resources and give recommendations on the choice of wind turbines on a contractual basis.

If the wind energy resources in your area are small, it is quite possible that other types of renewable energy will be effective.

In regions promising for the use of wind turbines, the average annual wind speed should be 4–6 m/s or more. Russia has significant wind energy resources, they are concentrated mainly in those regions (see map) where there is no centralized energy supply. This situation is typical for the entire Arctic coast from the Kola Peninsula to Chukotka, as well as for the coast and island territories of the Bering and Okhotsk Seas. The geography of distribution of wind energy resources allows their rational use both by autonomous wind turbines and large wind farms as part of local energy systems.

In Russia, wind energy can be effectively used in the following regions:

  • regions: Arkhangelsk, Astrakhan, Volgograd, Kaliningrad, Kamchatka, Leningrad, Magadan, Murmansk, Novosibirsk, Perm, Rostov, Sakhalin, Tyumen;
  • regions: Krasnodar, Primorsky, Khabarovsk;
  • and also: Dagestan, Kalmykia, Karelia, Komi, Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Taimyr Autonomous Okrug, Khakassia, Chukotka, Yakutia, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Other separate areas of many territories, regions and republics of the Russian Federation are also promising.

Updated meteorological data (including average annual and average monthly wind speeds) for the regions of Russia are contained in the Atlas of Wind and Solar Climates in Russia.

If it turns out that there are no sufficient wind energy resources in the area of interest, it makes no sense to carry out further actions to solve the problem of using wind turbines in this place.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Plant Census of China 08.09.2006

The publication of the multi-volume work of Chinese botanists, begun in the 30s, has been completed. Four generations of scientists with a break for the "proletarian cultural revolution" (1966-1976) worked on 126 volumes, which list and describe 31141 species of higher plants known in China.

Local and imported, wild and cultivated, weeds and useful plants are taken into account. Moreover, more than 20 descriptions are illustrated with drawings and photographs. Exceed China in the diversity of flora only Brazil and Colombia.

The poorest area for plants (except for deserts) is the islands in the south of the Indian Ocean, near Antarctica, where there are only 35 species.
