9. LOGICAL TECHNIQUES FOR THE FORMATION OF CONCEPTS

The formation of a concept is not a simple mirror act of reflecting the objects of reality, but a most complex dialectical process. It involves the activity of the researcher and includes many logical techniques, the most important of which are analysis and synthesis, comparison, abstraction and generalization.

The selection of features is associated with the mental division of objects into its constituent parts, sides, elements.

The mental breakdown of an object into parts is called analysis..

Elements, sides, features of the subject, identified through analysis, must be combined into a single whole. This is achieved with the help of a technique opposite to analysis - synthesis.

Synthesis - this is a logical technique with the help of which the mental connection of parts of an object dissected by analysis is carried out.

Comparison - mental comparison of one object with another, identifying signs of similarity and difference in one way or another.

Abstraction - mental simplification of objects by highlighting some features in them and abstracting from others, the result of this process is called abstraction or concept.

Generalization - mental association of homogeneous objects, their grouping based on certain common characteristics. Thanks to generalization, the essential features identified in individual objects are considered as signs of all objects to which this concept is applicable.

Thus, establishing the similarity (or difference) between objects (comparison), dividing similar objects into elements (analysis), highlighting essential features and abstracting from non-essential ones (abstraction), connecting essential features (synthesis) and extending them to all homogeneous objects (generalization), we form one of the main forms of thinking - the concept.

Nanoresonator will help reflect 10000 times more light 22.08.2015

You will not surprise anyone with the multiple amplification of light with the help of lenses. To achieve this by changing the resonant properties of light is much more difficult. However, according to the statements of scientists from the University of Wisconsin at Madison (USA), they managed to create a device on the nanoscale, which is able to emit light as a source 10 times larger than the device.

As an analogy to their discovery, the researchers cite resonance and amplification of sound during the formation of an acoustic standing wave in a reflecting chamber. Light can also be enhanced by the environment, which affects the physical properties of the light wave energy. To do this, scientists have created an artificial material in which the wavelength of light is much longer than the wavelength in vacuum, which made it possible to achieve a stronger resonance.

The nanoresonator receives light energy from the environment and condenses it in a subwavelength volume. A significant amount of light energy is captured before the light is reflected onto a much larger surface, and then scattered over a larger surface, allowing even microscopically small objects to appear huge in the light thus amplified.

Such optical "supervisibility" of small objects due to superpowerful scattering, according to scientists, can be used to create a new generation of photosensors. In addition, due to the ability of the nanoresonator to absorb a large amount of light energy, the technology has the potential to be used for highly efficient use of solar energy.

Scientists imagine the nanoresonator as a passive cooling system due to enhanced heat transfer, since the optical cross section of the nanoresonator exceeds its physical dimensions. And even the most distant project involves the creation of a nanoresonator heater that would simply emit infrared rays into the cold sky.
