It turns out that a primitive brain region known as the prostriata not only specializes in detecting fast-moving objects in the peripheral rhenium field, but, unlike any other "visual" brain region, controls emotions and immediate reactions. At the moment of a panic attack, for example, when a person suffers from agoraphobia or claustrophobia (fear of open and, accordingly, closed spaces), this area of the brain becomes hyperactive. Moreover, previous research indicates that the prostriata is one of the first areas of the brain to be affected in Alzheimer's disease. This explains spatial disorientation and a tendency to fall, which are among the first signs of problems associated with Alzheimer's disease.
Thus, scientists were able to discover a specialized information processing circuit in the brain. With its help, the brain receives signals from peripheral vision and coordinates physical and emotional reactions very quickly. It is this area of the brain that can instantly change our mood, reacting to visual stimuli.
