32. SCENARIO ANALYSIS

Scenario Analysis - risk analysis, in which, along with the basic version of the project, several potential options for implementation are considered. In fact, a scenario is a probable event that can significantly affect the integral indicators of the project. Scenarios (variants) are usually based on expert assessments of the forecast of changes in economic indicators (inflation, changes in the tax burden), the economic situation in a particular market (prices, sales volume). In accordance with them, the values of the project factors that are checked for risk are determined, the pessimistic, optimistic and realistic (most probable) options for the project are calculated. The NPV is determined for each of these scenarios and compared with the NPV value of the project's base case.

Scenario analysis is carried out using Project Expert tools. application What-if. A previously prepared project model is used as a base case. In this case, it is not different project scenarios that are compared, but a number of ones created on its basis. Several scenarios - project options are specified by deviations from the base option, and then their indicators are compared with each other.

The What-If-analysis program will calculate integral indicators for all scenarios and provide them both in absolute values and in the form of deviations from the base case.

Also used for decision making graphical display of Cash-Flow и NPV compared scenarios. Cash-Flow deviations will allow you to evaluate the financing scheme included in the model, including the time of occurrence of a deficit or excess of funds for various options.

Scenario analysis recommended for use in a finite number of scenarios. Often, a real project involves an unlimited number of possible scenarios, the probability of which is not determined, and therefore can be considered the same. To solve this problem, Project Expert uses simulation modeling, which involves a probabilistic assessment of the occurrence of various circumstances.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Users can easily adjust the temperature using a dedicated mobile app connected via Bluetooth. Additionally, specially designed T-shirts and shorts are available for convenience, to which a mini air conditioner can be attached. The device can oh ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

Graphene's success is hindered by silicon particles 16.12.2018

Moving out of the lab and into mass production, graphene was to revolutionize. However, both graphene and graphene oxide have been produced on an industrial scale for several years, and the expected breakthrough has not happened. Devices that use graphene have so far not performed as well as expected.

The raw material for the industrial production of graphene is a variety of graphite purified from impurities. Rouhollah Jalili, Dorna Esrafilzadeh and their colleagues from the Royal Melbourne University of Technology and the Iranian Research Institute of Basic Sciences compared two graphene: industrial and one that was created in the laboratory from the purest graphite. Scanning transmission electron microscopy showed that all commercial samples contain silicon impurities. Silicon particles get into graphene from the feedstock, the authors explain in a recent publication in Nature. The situation is aggravated by the fact that commercial graphene producers have switched to relatively cheap raw materials, which contain impurities.

And what harms silicon to graphene? Experts believe that silicon, in particular, prevents the interaction of liquid molecules with the surface of a two-dimensional material. As a result, graphene-based humidity sensors turn out to be not as sensitive as in theory, and doped graphene capacitors have a lower capacitance. The researchers tried to clean commercial graphene from silicon in an alkali solution, but the pollutant layer turned out to be strong, and the caustic solution disrupted the structure of the two-dimensional material.

So the only way to avoid contamination is to use ultra-pure raw materials. The authors of the work created and tested a humidity sensor and a capacitor made of graphene, which is almost ideal in purity. The characteristics of the sensor turned out to be better than those of any other known sensors made of two-dimensional material, and the capacitor turned out to have a record capacitance, which almost coincided with that predicted theoretically.
