35. PAYBACK PERIOD. DISCOUNTED PAYBACK PERIOD

payback (PB - Payback period) is the time required to cover the initial investment from the net cash flow generated by the investment project. The following ratio is used to calculate the payback period:

where Investments - initial investment; GFt - net cash flow of month t.

Required condition project implementation: the payback period should be less than the duration of the project.

Discounted payback period (DPB - Discounted payback period) is calculated similarly to PB, but in this case the net cash flow is discounted. The ratio used for the calculation is as follows:

where Investments - initial investment; GFt - net cash flow of month t; r - monthly discount rate.

This indicator gives a more realistic estimate payback period than RV, subject to the correct choice of discount rate.

QNAP TVS-882ST2 NAS 22.02.2017

QNAP introduced TVS-882ST2 NAS. The manufacturer begins the description of the novelty by mentioning the sixth-generation 14-nanometer 4-core Intel Core i5-6442EQ processor with hardware support for AES-NI encryption. The storage is designed for eight 2,5-inch drives equipped with a SATA 6 Gb / s interface. It itself is equipped with two Thunderbolt 2 ports, two 10GbE ports, two USB 3.1 ports (Type-C and Type-A) and two USB 3.0 ports, as well as an HDMI video output with support for 4K video. The amount of RAM is 8 GB. It can be expanded up to 32 GB.

The storage is running QTS 4.3 OS. It can be used as a DAS, NAS or iSCSI SAN.

An interesting feature of the device is the Thunderbolt to Ethernet (T2E) Converter function, which allows the Thunderbolt port to work as an Ethernet connection. It allows you to connect computers without Ethernet ports to the network without requiring additional adapters.

Like other QNAP storages of this class, TVS-882ST2 supports virtualization. The corresponding Virtualization Station component allows you to run Windows, Linux, UNIX and Android virtual machines; the Container Station component includes LXC and Docker virtualization technologies; and QvPC technology turns the TVS-882ST2 into a PC when connected to a keyboard, mouse and monitor.
