31. Northern Renaissance

The literature of the Northern Renaissance reached great heights. In the Netherlands, the flowering of literature is associated primarily with the name Erasmus of Rotterdam (1469-1536). The most famous works of this humanist are “Praise of Folly” (1509) and “Home Conversations”. In them, he ridicules many vices and calls people to free-thinking and the pursuit of knowledge. In France, the ideas of humanism were developed in their literary works François Rabelais (1494-1553) (his outstanding work "Gargantua and Pantagruel") and Michel de Montaigne (1533-1592), who affirmed the ideas of rationalism in his main work, “Experiments.”

The work of the Spanish writer had a huge impact on world literature. Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616). It is especially worth noting his main work - the novel Don Quixote. It is the standard for humanistic literature. Cervantes' compatriot, another Spanish writer Lope de Vega (1562-1635) thanks to his works "Dog in the Manger", "Blood of the Innocents", "Star of Seville", "Dance Teacher" and others, remains relevant today. Raising important questions for each person, he does not lose his novelty and significance today.

And finally, in England, the literature of the Renaissance is associated with the name of an outstanding author William Shakespeare (1564-1616). He owns thirty-seven plays ("Hamlet", "Othello", "King Lear", "Richard III", "Romeo and Juliet" and many others), the productions of which have not left theater stages all over the world to this day. It was thanks to W. Shakespeare that theatrical art in England received enormous development during the Renaissance.

Outstanding creators were not only in the literary environment. Painting received a big boost. Major painters in the Netherlands were Jan van Eyck (c. 1390-1441) - the author of a new oil painting technique at that time, Hieronymus (c. 1460-1516), Frans Hals (1581/1585-1666) - virtuoso painter, Pieter Bruegel (1525-1569). And perhaps the most significant names in the world of painting - Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) и Harmens van Rijn Rembrandt (1606-1669). Rubens's works are characterized by pomp, high spirits, and a lot of decorations and decorations. The main theme of his works were religious and mythological subjects.

The Renaissance, which originated in Italy, was of such great importance for the culture of the whole world that it could not remain in the territory of one state and spread throughout Western Europe. In each country, the Renaissance had its own national characteristics, but there were also many similarities. Firstly, the idea of humanism, characteristic of the Renaissance in all countries, which can be seen in most works of art. And although the church tried in every possible way to stop the development of this new thinking of people, sometimes resorting to the most extreme measures, the Renaissance was the basis for all further cultures of Western European civilizations and even largely influenced the cultures of the countries of the East.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

Smart new generation military uniform 08.05.2012

The US Office of Naval Research has published a competitive proposal for the development of a new generation of military uniforms. The unique "smart" clothing will continuously measure the vital signs of soldiers, determine the location of the military, the severity of injuries, and even transmit the coordinates of wounded soldiers to medical staff and promising evacuation robots. All the devices needed to perform these tasks will be integrated directly into the fabric of the uniform.

This initiative, called Intelligent Clothing for Rapid Response to Aid Wounded Soldiers, is not the first attempt by the US Army to revolutionize military uniforms. So, in 2004, within the framework of the "Soldier of the Future" program, bulletproof vests with woven electrical wiring and gel sensors were developed, which were supposed to transmit information about the state of the soldier to the command and control center. Later, the Soldier of the Future program was canceled and the electronic clothing project remained unrealized. However, apparently, the idea has not died, and the Pentagon will still try to put it into practice.

A promising high-tech uniform will use an array of sensors embedded in the fabric, integrated into a single system. They will control the vital functions of a soldier, as well as determine the nature and location of the injury, assess the depth of penetration of a fragment or bullet, and identify the affected internal organs. In addition, sensors must be able to detect the presence and exposure of the body to hazardous chemical, biological, radioactive, and explosive substances. For this, special sensors and specific biomarkers in blood, saliva, sweat, etc. will be used.

Thanks to the timely detection of various threats, the soldier will have time to take measures to protect his life, and the doctors will be able to prepare in advance to provide assistance and win precious minutes during the so-called "golden hour", when the chance of survival of the wounded is maximum.

Developing a smart fabric is not an insurmountable task. Over the past five years, commercial enterprises have made impressive progress in this area. Fabrics have been created that can detect, for example, the blood sugar level of diabetics or monitor breathing, pulse and blood pressure in athletes. There is even tissue that can prevent injury, more precisely, to ensure that a person does not overload the muscles.
