Numerals

In Latin, cardinal numbers do not affect the case of their nouns. Of the cardinal numbers, only unus, a, um are declined; duo, duae, duo; tres, tria. A number of medical terms are formed with the help of prefixes. Numerals prefixes of Latin origin prevail in the anatomical nomenclature, and Greek - in clinical terminology and in the nomenclature of medicines.

Chips in the mountains 14.08.2007

On the Alpine plateau of Bur (southeast of France, 2500 meters above sea level), a laboratory has been created to study the effect of cosmic rays on microcircuits. The functioning of microelectronics is based on the movement of charges with a value of about a femtocoulomb. Meanwhile, every second, cosmic rays, consisting of protons, neutrons and heavy ions and coming mainly from the Sun, bring dozens of such charges to the microcircuit.

On the Bur plateau, the number of energetic cosmic ray particles is 10 times greater than at sea level. Since the summer of 2006, memory chips for computers have been tested in a mountain laboratory. It turned out that in the most common microcircuits with a diameter of the smallest parts of 130 nanometers, cosmic rays at this height cause an average of five memory errors per month.

These studies will increase the stability and reliability of microelectronics, especially aviation. In addition, microcircuits with thinner parts have recently appeared, which should be more sensitive to interference. Their tests in the mountains have already begun.
