43. Business and prices

An integral and important component in the business activities of the company is the price of goods and services.

Price serves as the only element in the activities of the firm, which is the producer of profit. The price, in contrast to the quality and properties of the goods, is a very flexible element that can be subject to rapid change.

The price reflects the quality characteristics of the product, which affects the pricing policy.

Pricing policy is to solve one of five tasks, which include:

1) “cream skimming” policy;

2) survival;

3) increase in current profit;

4) the desire to become a leader;

5) increase in market share.

The price of a product depends on the level of consumer demand. An indicator that reflects the dependence of price levels on current demand is called the demand curve. In a normal social environment, price and demand are inversely proportional. This means that an increase in the price of a good reduces the demand for it.

The opposite dynamics is observed in relation to prestigious goods. Some categories of buyers prefer to purchase high quality goods at high prices.

The demand curve characterizes the reaction of buyers who belong to different categories, i.e., determines their sensitivity to price. A firm can use one of three methods to analyze demand curves:

1) statistical analysis of factors affecting the relationship between prices and sales volumes;

2) conducting experiments with prices;

3) a method of surveying buyers, during which the degree of dependence of the quantity of purchased products on the level of prices for it is clarified.

In addition to the demand curve, to determine the sensitivity of demand to the prices of goods, there is the concept of elasticity of demand. If the demand for goods changes even with a slight change in prices, this indicates the elasticity of demand. If, when prices change, demand remains almost unchanged, we can talk about its inelasticity.

There are two types of costs: fixed and variable.

Fixed costs are those costs that do not depend on production volumes and volumes of products sold (payment for energy, heating, rent, salaries to company employees, and others).

Variable costs reflect the costs that are associated with the production level of the firm.

Total costs are the sum of the fixed and variable costs of a firm.

Average cost is the cost per unit of output. Average cost is determined by dividing the total cost by the volume of output produced.

Latest news of science and technology, new electronics:

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Additionally, specially designed T-shirts and shorts are available for convenience, to which a mini air conditioner can be attached. The device can oh ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

Satellite constellation of 1600 devices 18.02.2014

NewSpace Global Analysts, based on "trusted sources in the space industry," forecasts that 160 Skybox-like spacecraft will be launched in the near future. Subsequently, the satellite constellation will increase 10 times - up to 1600 satellites.

The creation of a large constellation of 1600 satellites has not yet been officially confirmed and so far resembles the 1990s Teledesic project. During this project, it was planned to create a network of 840 satellites in low Earth orbit, providing broadband Internet access. Large businessmen were involved in the financing of this project, in particular Craig McCaw, Bill Gates, Paul Allen and others. However, the Teledesic project, like the creation of a constellation of satellites for the Globalstar and Iridium telephone network, failed due to the rapid growth of alternative terrestrial telecommunications services.

However, many satellites in low earth orbits are required to provide high-resolution imagery of any particular region of the Earth that is frequently repeated. The more satellites, the more often the same areas will be surveyed. At the same time, the demand for such shooting is growing both in the state and in the commercial spheres.

Google is currently a major investor in the deployment of the NSG 100 O3b Networks satellite constellation, which launched its first broadband satellites in late 2013. This project is focused on expanding the market for communication services in developing countries, which is reflected in the name of the project: Other 3 billion, that is, "Other 3 billion".

Skybox satellite. Perhaps in the near future, a large private company will launch a constellation of 1600 such satellites into low Earth orbit.

A subsidiary of Google Ventures LLC recently announced plans to lease a hangar at the U.S. military-civilian Federal Airfield, Mofette. According to the company's official statement, the hangar will be used "for research, testing, assembly and development of new technologies related to space and aviation activities."

It is possible that a new private space constellation will include not only telecommunications satellites, but also spacecraft designed for remote sensing of the Earth (ERS). The market and opportunities for remote sensing technologies are constantly growing. In particular, Planet Labs Inc. launched its first Flock constellation of 28 remote sensing satellites from the International Space Station. Skybox Imaging plans to have its own constellation of 24 satellites and recently announced a joint production of 13 satellites with Space Systems/Loral (SS/L).
