Many years ago, in the last century, one spectacular trick enjoyed great success. It has been described often in the literature, and you may have read about it. There was a table on the stage, and on it there was a dish with a living human head. Her eyes blinked, her head not only moved a little, but even talked to the audience and answered questions asked of her.

A similar trick, but in a reduced size, we can do with you. Only we will not have a head on a dish, but the unexpected appearance of various objects from a small basket, box, flower pot, tin can. For example, you can show the audience how a huge beautiful flower grows right in front of their eyes from a small cardboard cup, or how a long toy snake crawls out of a small basket, and then itself is drawn back into the basket. You can even show your hand as if it were lying on a cardboard plate on its own and moving its fingers. Even those who know what it's all about will still enjoy these tricks.

Here it will be told how to equip a small stage on which you can show all this. The success of tricks will depend, of course, on your accuracy, resourcefulness, on how you prepare everything.

The secret of magic lies in the screen, which will block from the audience what they should not see. But at the same time, the audience will not see the screen itself either; it will be invisible to them.

The screen in question consists of two small mirrors. They are installed on the stage in such a way that their edges are not visible at all. The mirrors reflect the side walls and floor of the stage. These side reflections merge with the background of the stage, and it seems to the viewer that he freely sees the entire back wall of the stage. Thus, the mirror screen itself, as it were, does not exist at all.

So, you need to get two mirrors. The smallest mirror size for our tricks is 14 centimeters long and 11 centimeters wide. It is best to contact a special mirror workshop and ask them to cut two mirrors of this size. The glass of the mirrors should be thin and not distort, the edges are cut evenly, without chamfers.

When you get mirrors, you need to take care of the stage. For the floor of the stage, pick up a piece of board about two centimeters thick and 30X30 centimeters in size. Cut three rectangles from plywood: two - 30x20 centimeters in size and one - 34x20 centimeters. These will be the side and back walls of the stage. Nail the walls with carnations or attach with screws to the board - the floor of the stage. But besides this, glue the protruding edges of the back wall with wood glue to two vertical slats glued to the outer edges of the side walls. You will end up with a square stage, closed on three sides. If the plywood is new, clean and the color of all three walls is the same, then you can not paint them. And paint the floor of our stage with dark paint, you can even black.

When the stage is ready, you need to install mirrors on it and make a table. The table will have three legs.

Place two mirrors in the middle of the stage at an angle of 90° to each other. Set the top of their corner at a distance of 15 centimeters from the front edge of the stage. Mirrors should be placed on the floor of the stage on their long sides and towards the back wall. Reflective surfaces, of course, turn towards the open side of the stage. To prevent the mirrors from falling, fasten them from the inside with adhesive tape.

The position of the mirrors must be adjusted in such a way, moving them back and forth, that when looking at them from the front, the reflections of the inner side walls of the scene are clearly visible and, most importantly, that the reflections of the boundaries of the side walls and the floor exactly coincide with the real boundary of the rear wall and the floor. These borders should look like one line.

When you have achieved this, circle the mirrors on the floor with a pencil. In the resulting right angle near the back wall of the stage, draw a circle with a diameter of 9 centimeters on the floor and cut a hole. Inside the right angle formed by the mirrors, at its top, vertically fasten a wooden post with a section of 1,5x1,5 centimeters and a length of 11 centimeters. Install the same columns behind the second vertical edges of the mirrors. The bollards are best installed using screws driven through the stage floor from the back side. Leaning the mirrors against the posts, strengthen them on the back with adhesive tape. To mask the vertical edges of the mirrors, you need to make three outer legs of the table. Make them from rectangular wooden blocks. The front leg of the table should be slightly more than twice as wide as the rear legs. The fact is that thanks to the reflections of the rear legs in the mirrors, they will look exactly the same in width as the front leg.

In the front leg - in the middle, along its entire length - make a narrow groove and paint over it with black paint. And paint the legs themselves with light green paint. When the legs are put in place, dark stripes form between the rear legs and their reflections in the mirrors. That's why the front leg should also have a black stripe so that all three legs look exactly the same.

Cut a circle out of plywood or thick cardboard of such a size that when it lies on all three columns, its edge protrudes slightly beyond each column. The edge of the mug at the very back wall of the scene will have to be cut off so that the wall does not prevent the mug from lying on the posts. In this circle, in its middle, cut a hole with a diameter of 9 centimeters. The holes in the table and in the floor of the stage will be slightly shifted in relation to each other: it will be more convenient to stick different objects onto the surface of the table when showing tricks.

Reinforce the circle on the posts with small carnations. Now you need to put in place the front and rear camouflage legs of the table. Lubricate their ends with glue and set in place. They should stick to the floor and the plywood mug. Just make sure that they block the vertical edges of the mirrors well.

Glue a paper rim around the plywood circle or place a small tablecloth with a hole cut into it. The edges of the tablecloth should hang slightly to block the top edges of the mirrors. On the floor of the stage, place rectangular pieces of colored cardboard (for example, from milk cartons) at small intervals to give the impression that there is a colored rug under the table. The gaps are needed in order to mask the lower edges of the mirrors, their border with the floor of the stage.

Still need to put up a curtain. Make it sliding on a fishing line stretched at some distance from the stage. It is very important to light the scene well. The light should not be too bright. Try not to have treacherous shadows on the stage that can give the audience the secret of the mirror screen.

Tricks with an invisibility screen

Tricks with an invisibility screen

It is best to demonstrate tricks from another room, from the end of the table attached to the door, placing the stage on it. You can show tricks in one room, but then you need to block it with a large curtain so that the magician himself is not visible.

In addition to those tricks that have already been mentioned, we can recommend a few more.

Demonstrate the appearance of a fabulous genie from a dish or from a tin can with a hole in the bottom. When folded, his heavily starched and folded clothes will easily pass through the narrow opening of the dish in which he supposedly sat.

Another spectacular trick can be done with the participation of your hand. The curtain opens. On the table, on a cardboard plate, lies a hand. Lies motionless. Gradually, the fingers begin to move, the brush seems to wake up. Your assistant puts a thick pencil in his fingers and brings a cardboard with paper glued to it closer to his hand. The drawing has already been drawn in advance, so the cardboard must be held so that the viewers of the drawing do not notice. The hand seems to be drawing diligently. This doesn't last long. The hand then discards the pencil, picks up a piece of cardboard, and shows the viewers what it is supposed to be a drawing that has just been drawn. The curtain closes.

You can show many entertaining tricks not only with the appearance of some objects, but also with their disappearance. Place a small cardboard box on the table, which has an arcuate slit in the bottom. Part of the bottom will be able to bend outward, and various small objects and something taken from the audience can be easily inserted into the hole formed: table tennis balls, combs, keys, pencils, and the like. After you finish filling the bottomless box, you take it with your hand, discreetly cover the hole with a bent piece of the bottom, show the audience that the box is empty. At the same time, you need to block the hole in the table with your hand. Of course, all this must be done quickly and immediately put the box back on the table. Then you hand out to the audience another, large box with all the items taken from them, so that everyone can find their own there.

Something you can think of yourself. Everything will depend on your desire and ingenuity.
