Adonis. Myths, traditions, symbolism

Adonis spring (Adonis spring)

An ancient mythological image-symbol of young male beauty, which originates from Syrian-Phoenician beliefs (Alon is the lord) and is a kind of "dying and resurrecting gods", the spirit of annually renewing development.

Being the lover of Aphrodite (lat. Venus), he was killed by an angry boar, according to other versions - by the god Ares (lat. Mars), who took the form of a beast.

Anemones (anemone) or adonis grow from the blood of Adonis, his soul descended into the underworld of Hades.

The goddess of love begged Zeus so that Adonis would spend only part of the year in the underworld, and in the spring he could return to her. This request was granted, and the revival of the young nature was celebrated with holidays, songs, and the laying of "gardens of Adonis".

Adonis is the Greek form of the Sumerian vegetation god Dumuzi (Tammuz in Aramaic), beloved of the goddess Inanna. The annual vegetation cycle in many religions and cultures is symbolized by deities who enter the afterlife, but are periodically reborn.

Adonis (Adonis). Legends, myths, history

Adonis spring (Adonis spring)

An annual herbaceous plant with leaves twice or thrice divided into narrow linear lobes. The flowers have a fiery or brick red corolla with six to eight petals. At the base of the petals - black spots.

The name of the plant is given in honor of the beautiful young man Adonis, about whom the ancient Greek legend tells. The goddess Aphrodite, angry with the daughter of the king of Cyprus for not honoring her enough, instilled in her a passion for her own father. King Kiner enters into a criminal relationship, not suspecting that he is dealing with his own daughter, and, upon learning, curses her. The gods, taking pity on her, turn the unfortunate woman into a myrrh tree.

After a while, a child of amazing beauty is born from the cracked trunk of this tree. Aphrodite gives the baby in a casket to Persephone, the queen of the underworld, to raise.

Having raised Adonis, Persephone did not want to part with him. The dispute of the goddesses was resolved by Zeus, destining Adonis to spend part of the year in the kingdom of the dead with Persephone, part of the year on earth with Aphrodite, whose companion and lover he becomes. None of the mortals and gods was equal to him in beauty, and the beautiful goddess spent all the time with young Adonis. Together they hunted in the mountains and forests of Cyprus, like the goddess of hunting Artemis, for hares, shy deer and chamois, avoiding hunting formidable lions and wild boars.

Once, in the absence of Aphrodite, the dogs of Adonis attacked the trail of a huge boar. It is Artemis, enraged by the fact that the goddess of love was preferred to her, sends a ferocious beast to the young man.

According to other legends, the jealous Ares, the husband of Aphrodite, turned into a ferocious boar. Adonis rejoiced at the upcoming prey, not suspecting that this was his last hunt. Now he was already preparing to pierce the angry boar with a spear, but did not have time: the boar rushed at him and mortally wounded the young hunter with his huge sharp fangs.

Adonis died from a terrible wound. Heartbroken, Aphrodite herself went to the mountains to look for the body of her lover. Making her way along the stones between the rocks, she did not notice how sharp stones and thorns of thorns wounded her tender legs; drops of her blood fell to the ground, and fragrant flowers grew in their place.

Finally, the goddess found the body of Adonis, mourned him, and all nature grieved with her. In memory of her love, she grew a beautiful flower from the blood of Adonis, which blooms every spring. Zeus took pity on the grief of the goddess of love and he ordered his brother Hades to release Adonis for six months from the gloomy kingdom of the dead to the earth to the sun.

With the first spring rays of the sun, Adonis comes to earth, and all nature comes to life, in the steppe and on the edges of the forest, a golden-yellow flower, named after him, blooms.

According to another legend, the flower was named Adonis in honor of the Phoenician and Assyrian sun god Adon, who died every year in autumn and resurrected in spring.

Spring Adonis. The value of the plant, the procurement of raw materials, the use in traditional medicine and cooking

Adonis spring (Adonis spring)

In an extensive set of medicinal herbs, adonis has long occupied a strong and prominent place. It is as if he is always under the supervision of grass-seekers, under their care. Therefore, its density in the herbage entirely depends on the careful attitude of the collectors of medicinal raw materials. Where prudently, economically, they use the wealth of a green pharmacy, there every spring large yellow corollas of adonis, popularly called adonis, bloom in the steppe and forest pegs. And vice versa, in places of ruthless destruction of the flora of health, it cannot be found; does not get along under a callous hand.

What is this herb? First of all, spring adonis is a perennial, its short dark brown rhizome with cord-like branches does not die off by winter. Only the stem grows anew every year, which at first is quite squat and reaches 35 centimeters only at the time of wilting of the flowers. Flowers sit on the tops of the stems and their branches. The leaves of adonis are pinnately dissected, they look like dill. They are arranged in order. Already in June, this grass acquires small wrinkled fruits, equipped with a hooked nose, wrapped downwards.

The collection period for spring adonis is relatively extended, lasting from flowering to fruiting grass (from late April to late June). But the best medicinal raw materials are harvested in the flowering phase of the plant. It was then that the adonis contains the largest amount of active substances - cymarin and adokidin, which have great biological activity (this is especially true for cymarin).

Medicines are prepared from the herb of spring adonis, which calm the nervous system and stimulate the activity of the heart.

Adonis is taken only for the needs of pharmacies, unauthorized use of grass due to toxicity should not be allowed. Go for the "green treasure" to the steppe meadows and limestone cliffs, where adonis still comes across in places in pure thickets. Do not uproot the grass, do not destroy the beauty of the earth. Accurate cutting of the tops will allow you to extract this healing gift of nature the next year.

In folk medicine, strong adonis tea was treated for diseases of a weak heart, shortness of breath, fever and dropsy. It was not given to pregnant women in any form, fearing a miscarriage. In dialects, grass was most often known as old oak, field dill, upland outcast, hare poppy, mohnatik and hair grass. The scientific name of Adonis is given in honor of Adonis, a mythological youth who was turned by the gods into a beautiful flower.

On pastures, this grass is not eaten by livestock and is removed from hay by fodder. Adonis belong to the buttercup family and, therefore, are also "fierce", inedible for livestock. That is why the shepherds do not like the old oak in their lands ...

Adonis. Legends, the birthplace of the plant, the history of distribution

Adonis spring (Adonis spring)

In early spring, as soon as the snow melts in the steppe, the earth is dressed in a lush green dress. One of the first to break through to the light is a low plant with strongly dissected leaves.

You will see him and not pay attention: the grass is like grass, nothing special. But a few days will pass, a flower will begin to bloom at the end of the stem - and the plant will change. It's hard to take your eyes off him now. A large bright yellow flower seems to burn in the grass with a golden light. That's why the plant was called the adonis.

But he also has another name. It came to us from a distant land.

The ancient Greeks told a legend about the handsome golden-haired young man Adonis, who fell in love with the most beautiful of the goddesses - Aphrodite. The goddess protected her lover in every possible way, warned him not to hunt predatory animals in her absence. But the young man did not listen to the advice. Once Adonis chased a wild boar, but made a mistake, and the enraged beast mortally wounded him.

Aphrodite cried for a long time over the body of the dead young man, and then commanded: "Let wonderful golden flowers grow from the drops of the beloved's blood every spring!" So the adonis got another name - adonis.

A beautiful legend about a beautiful flower... But it turns out that people appreciate Adonis not only for its beauty.

For a long time, rural healers plucked the stems and leaves of the plant and prepared drugs from them for heart disease.

But in recent years it has become difficult to find adonis. Where did he go?

Adonis spring (Adonis spring)

Adonis is accustomed to living in the steppes. And the empty steppes are becoming less and less - Agros' possessions are crowding them from all sides. That is why golden lights burn in the grass less and less often.

The doctors were worried - and to the scientists: "Help save Adonis!" Scientists thought and answered: "Let's try to relocate him to the field."

Scientists are not the first time to help out doctors. They have a whole Institute of Medicinal Plants involved in this business. What kind of plants do not pass the test there before they get to the collective farm fields!

Scientists have collected seeds of adonis, sowed on an experimental plot. And the results are bad. Sowed a second time - again a failure. They were surprised: they did not expect that the newcomer would be so obstinate.

They suffered for a long time at the institute with Adonis, until they "argued" the stubborn one. Now, with each spring, the flowers of the golden-haired adonis smile more joyfully on the medicinal field.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

New video discs store up to four hours of video on each side 29.03.2000

In 2001, new videodiscs will be available for sale, which can record up to four hours of video on one side.

The currently offered DVD-RAM discs allow you to record up to two hours of information on one side. New video discs are coated with a dosed mixture of antimony, germanium and tellurium.

When recording or rewriting (up to 1000 times without quality degradation), the laser beam melts the composition, orients the crystals, which then harden. During playback, a beam of lower power reads digital information on the crystallized areas of the coating. In the new advanced technology, the disc is coated with two layers of compound, the top of which is transparent to the laser.

It is enough to concentrate the beam on the lower layer so that the recording goes to it, and then goes to the upper layer.
