Organic semiconductors

Organic semiconductors are a promising material for creating inexpensive flexible electronics, primarily for video displays that can be bent like the pages of a book or rolled up, as well as for circuits sewn into special uniforms or sportswear.

Researchers have demonstrated the ability to "print" organic crystal transistors onto flexible plastic sheets using a technique that resembles inkjet printing or engraving. However, to further develop the technology, scientists must show that organic semiconductors withstand various impacts, primarily frequent and sharp bending.

In a paper published in the journal Nature Communications, scientists led by Vitaly Podzorov from Rutgers University have demonstrated extremely flexible organic semiconductors. The novelties are made of TES-ADT organic semiconductor grown on a 2,5-micron Mylar plastic substrate. The new type of semiconductor can withstand multiple bending cycles and can be used to make devices as small as 100-200 microns.

The scientists worked with the various crystalline compounds they made and found no damage in them after being deformed. Podzorov claims that this is the first serious study of crystalline organic semiconductors under various types of deformation - sharp bending, repeated bending, as well as compression and stretching. He argues that there have been previous mechanical strength studies with promising results, but lack of flexibility tests for various types of organic semiconductors, especially for those that are most promising for the development of low-cost printed electronics. Rutgers scientists are focusing on two soluble molecules (developed by the group of Professor John Anthony of the University of Kentucky) that they crystallize on plastic sheets, arguing that the results should be consistent with other organic compounds currently being studied.

eVTOL electric flying car 06.01.2023

Aska unveiled the eVTOL electric flying car with a range of 400 km.

The Aska A5 is about the size of a typical SUV and has been described as the first four-seat electric vehicle that can travel on the road and up to 250 miles (402 km) in the air on a single charge. Although the A5 looks more like an airplane/helicopter than a traditional car, it has wings and propellers that can be folded down when it needs to be used as a car.

The vehicle is powered by a proprietary system combining lithium-ion batteries with a gasoline engine acting as an onboard range extender. It's unclear how much power the A5 has, but Aska notes that it has four electric motors in the wheels that provide all-wheel drive traction while also improving aerodynamics and maximizing interior space.

Although the A5 can take off like a helicopter, or use a runway like a traditional plane. During flight, the wings and six rotors deploy. Asuka notes that the wing has been optimized for "glide, smooth landings and energy efficiency."
