For me it’s better to drink, but mind it

Krylov I.A.
Krylov I.A.

Phraseologism: For me, it’s better to drink, but understand the matter.

Meaning: High professionalism, the talent of a drinking person is preferable to the sobriety of a mediocrity, amateur, incompetent (joking).

Origin: From the fable "Musicians" (1808) by I. A. Krylov (1769-1844): "The neighbor called the neighbor to eat, // But there was another intention: // The owner loved music // And he lured the neighbor to listen to the singers. // The good fellows sang: some went to the forest, some firewood // And who had what strength. // The guest's ears crackled, // And his head began to spin. // "Have mercy on me," he said with surprise, - // Than love here? Your choir // Bawls nonsense!" - // "That's true," the owner answered with emotion, "/ They tear a little, // But they don't take intoxicating things in their mouths, // And all with a wonderful command." // A I’ll say: it’s better to drink for me, // Yes, understand the matter. The fable was highly appreciated by N. V. Gogol, saying about its author: “It is especially audible how he always keeps the side of the mind, how he asks not to neglect an intelligent person, but to be able to handle him ... He knew that everything can be done with an intelligent person ... if you can talk smartly with him, but it is difficult to make a fool smart, no matter how you talk to him "(Gogol N.V. Sobr. Op.: In 7 vol. T. 6). V. G. Belinsky attributed this fable of Krylov to his best creations - "purely satirical and poetic."

Random phraseology:

I love my motherland, but with strange love!

Meaning:

About true, unofficial patriotism, which feeds on a purely individual, unique perception of the motherland.

Origin:

From the poem "Motherland" (1841) by M. Yu. Lermontov (1814-1841): "I love my homeland, but with a strange love! // My mind will not defeat it. // Neither glory bought with blood, // Nor full of proud trust Peace, // The cherished legends of the dark antiquity // Do not stir in me a joyful dream. // But I love - why I don’t know myself? - // Her steppes are cold, // Her boundless forests are swaying, // The floods of her rivers like seas..."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Cocoa improves visual acuity 03.07.2021

Researchers in Spain have studied the effect of compounds found in cocoa and red berries on retinal function in healthy eyes.

Cocoa and red berries are good sources of polyphenols in the human diet. Red berries are characterized by the presence of anthocyanins, a group of red-purple-blue flavonoids associated with endothelial protection and inflammation. Cocoa is rich in flavan-3-ols but also contains other polyphenols such as phenolic acids and flavonols.

In addition, cocoa is a good source of theobromine, which, unlike caffeine, has less of a psychoactive effect but can lower blood pressure, while caffeine increases it depending on the individual.
