Safe Operation

1. General safety requirements

Remember that personnel at least 18 years old who have been trained, tested their knowledge of labor protection instructions and have a corresponding entry in the qualification certificate on the results of testing knowledge and qualifications are allowed to work with abrasive tools. The frequency of knowledge testing is 1 time per year, repeated briefing is at least 1 time per quarter.

Comply with internal labor regulations. Do not smoke in production and storage areas. Smoking is allowed only in specially designated areas.

Do not use alcohol and drugs. This will dramatically increase the risk of injury.

Be attentive during work, do not be distracted yourself and do not distract others from the work.

Do not work without the proper guards, safety devices and devices, if they are missing, require them to be installed as soon as possible.

Do not allow people who are not related to your work to your workplace.

Keep the workplace clean throughout the working day and do not clutter it with parts, blanks and foreign objects.

Do not obstruct established aisles.

Remember that the equipment you are servicing is a source of increased danger. The sharp edges of parts, tools and chips can cause cuts to the hands if they accidentally come into contact with them, and their surfaces that heat up during processing can cause burns. Chips generated during machining can cause serious eye injuries. Moving and rotating parts of the machine can also injure. The cause of injury can be a fall due to a slippery floor (doused with oil, emulsion, etc.).

Shorting live electrical circuits through a worker's body to ground can cause electric shock.

To protect against the action of hazardous and harmful factors, work in personal protective equipment: a cotton suit, leather boots and goggles.

About all cases of equipment malfunction discovered by you, as well as accidents that you have witnessed or that have happened to you, immediately inform the foreman or the person replacing him. Report serious injuries to the medical center. Provide first aid to the victim.

Follow the rules of personal hygiene:

  • wash your hands before eating;
  • do not eat at the workplace;
  • do not leave your clothes at the workplace;\
  • keep work clothes clean;
  • take a shower after your work shift;
  • follow all safety rules. Remember that violators of the instructions are held accountable in accordance with the Internal Labor Regulations.

Noticing the violation of the requirements of this manual by others, do not remain indifferent, warn them about the need to comply with the requirements guaranteeing safe work.

2. Transportation and storage of abrasive and CBN tools

When transporting and storing abrasive tools, do not subject them to sharp shocks, shocks or moisture. Transportation of the tool together with metal parts and products is prohibited. Rolling grinding wheels by hand is only allowed on the floor, covered with a material that prevents the wheels from damage.

Abrasive tools and pastes, grinding materials should be stored in dry closed ventilated areas. It is allowed to store circles in a transport container.

3. Safety requirements before starting work

Before switching on the machine, make sure that no one is endangered by its start-up.

Inspect the workplace, put it in order: remove all unnecessary from under your feet, clear the passages, if the floor is slippery (doused with oil, emulsion, etc.), demand that it be sprinkled with sawdust or do it yourself.

Tidy up your work clothes: fasten or tie up the cuffs, pick up the hanging ends, put on a hat.

Get your goggles ready.

Check the presence and serviceability of protective guards, as well as current-carrying parts of electrical equipment, grounding devices, and chip protection devices.

Check the gap between the edge of the hand rest and the working surface of the grinding wheel, it should be no more than 3 mm.

Before starting work, rotate the tool at idle at operating speed for the following time in minutes, at least:

  • circles with a diameter up to 150mm - 1 min.
  • over 150 to 300 mm - 2 min.
  • over 300 mm - 3 min.

Arrange tools and accessories in a convenient order for use.

Report equipment malfunctions to the foreman immediately: do not start work until the malfunctions are eliminated.

3. Safety requirements during work.

Install and lower the abrasive tool only after the machine has come to a complete stop.

When working with manual grinding and portable pendulum tools, as well as cutting and peeling machines with manual feed, the working speed of the circle should not exceed 80 m / s.

It is forbidden to work with the side (end) surfaces of the circle, if it is not intended for this type of work.

When the circle diameter decreases due to actuation, the frequency of its rotation can be increased, but without exceeding the operating speed allowed for this circle.

Bring the object to be sharpened to the circle smoothly, without bumps. Press the circle effortlessly.

Do not allow the rotating wheel to be braked by pressing on it with any object.

Editing of circles is carried out only with ruling tools.

Polish and grind small parts only with the use of special tools and mandrels that exclude the possibility of injury to the hands.

Do not lean on the machine during operation and do not allow others to do so.

Beware of burrs on workpieces.

Be sure to stop the machine and turn off the motor:

  • when leaving the machine even for a short time;
  • during a temporary stoppage of work;
  • during a power outage;
  • when cleaning, lubricating, cleaning the machine;
  • when a problem is detected.

All work related to the electrical equipment of the machine must be carried out in cooperation with electrical specialists.

4. Safety requirements in emergency situations.

If the machine fails, or voltage appears on the case, the machine should be turned off and the master should be informed about the malfunction.

Extinguish fires on equipment with an electric drive only with carbon dioxide fire extinguishers. In other cases, it is possible to use water and foam fire extinguishers.

Before providing first aid for mechanical injuries, wash your hands with soap or lubricate with iodine. Do not touch the wound and the surface of the dressing applied to it with your hands. Do not clean the wound from blood clots and other inclusions, do not wash it even with medicines. Disinfect the edges of the wound with iodine and apply a bandage, gauze or handkerchief moistened with iodine.

For burns, apply a dry antiseptic dressing to the affected area.

In case of electric shock, if the victim cannot break away from live parts, turn off the electrical installation. If you know how to do this using improvised non-conductive means, disconnect it from the installation, or cut (or break) the electrical wiring with a tool with dielectric handles. In case of respiratory distress, start artificial respiration using the mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-nose method. In case of cardiac arrest, perform an indirect heart massage by pressing on the left side of the chest at a frequency of 60 times per minute, alternating massage with artificial respiration.

In case of injuries with metal shavings of the eyes, it is necessary to ensure the rest of the victim and call a doctor.

5. Safety requirements upon completion of work.

Turn off the machine.

Tidy up your workspace.

Check for a tool.

Hand over the equipment to the shifter or foreman and inform them of the noticed defects of the machine and the measures taken to eliminate them.

Store overalls in accordance with the procedure established at the site.

Wash your hands and face with warm soapy water or take a shower.
