Safe Operation

1. General requirements for labor protection

1.1. Persons who have been instructed at the workplace are allowed to work as workers employed in skidding forests by tractors. In the future, they must undergo repeated briefings at least once every three months.

1.2. Workers engaged in skidding forests with tractors are required to know and perform:

  • safe practices when performing work when skidding the las;
  • internal labor regulations regarding the prohibition of being at work in a state of alcoholic excitement;
  • when traveling to the place of work and back by car, strictly observe the rules for transporting people by car and follow the commands of the senior in the car.

1.3. The worker must be aware that in case of violation of the requirements of the instructions, he is liable in accordance with applicable law.

2. Labor protection requirements before starting work

2.1. Put on the prescribed overalls and tuck them in so that they fit the body well, and also do not have untucked ends and unbuttoned cuffs.

2.2. Check the serviceability of tools and fixtures.

2.3. Prepare skid dies across the entire width and length, i.e. remove trees, large stones and deadwood, cut down undergrowth, shrubs, cut stumps and bumps flush with the ground, fill in holes, and cover the filling areas with poles and branches. The width of skid trails in clear sanitary fellings and thinnings must be at least 5 m.

3. Labor protection requirements during work

3.1. It is forbidden to make a set of whips with a tractor in flat conditions closer than 50 m from the place of felling. An exception is the organization of hauling trees with a crown, when the feller is also a choker. With this method, the organization of labor between the feller and the tractor driver must be installed reliable two-way signaling. In this case, the tractor driver is obliged to stop the tractor at the border of the danger zone, give a signal to the feller, and only after receiving a permission signal from the feller, drive into the danger zone of felling the forest to the place of attaching trees. In the absence of two-way signaling, operation in this way is prohibited.

3.2. To push the whips (trees with a crown), the tractor must be installed on the portage so that its longitudinal axis coincides with the direction of movement of the pack.

3.3. Grassing of the forest by tractors on slopes with a slope in the longitudinal direction in winter and in rainy weather in summer more than 14 °, and in dry weather in summer more than 22 ° is prohibited. Skidding of wood by tractors across the slope without the device of special portages along the slope is not allowed.

3.4. Work on tractors not equipped with a cab or with unprotected rear windows is prohibited.

3.5. Chokering of whips (trees with a crown) behind the butt should be done at a distance of 0,5-0,7 m from the butt end, and behind the top at a distance of 0,7-1,2 m from the cut. After chokering the whips, the choker must approach the tractor cab and then give a signal to the tractor driver, allowing the formation of the wagon.

3.6. When skidding whips and trees with a crown, stay behind the butt in the tractor cab.

3.7. When hauling timber with tractors, it is prohibited:

  • while the tractor is moving along the cutting area, open the cabin door and lean out the side window;
  • work on a tractor with a faulty signal, poor lighting;
  • repair, lubricate, clean components and mechanisms while the engine is running;
  • move the tractor from its place in all cases without giving a sound signal;
  • turn on the winch and start moving without the signal of the choker, without making sure that the choker is in a safe place;
  • switch speeds when the tractor is moving downhill;
  • choke for dead, damp-growing trees and stumps for self-hanging when caterpillars fall;
  • when driving a tractor with a cart, be closer than 10 m from the end of the cart;
  • to pass over a moving cable, correct the coupling of the whips, unhook and attach the whips while the cable or tractor is moving;
  • ride on the tractor frame, loading device and skidding whips;
  • get on and off the tractor while it is moving.

4. Labor protection requirements in emergency situations

4.1. In case of injury through a number of working workers, get first aid and, if necessary, go to the nearest medical center by car. Notify the work manager.

5. Labor protection requirements in emergency situations

5.1. Tidy up the workplace.

5.2. Put in order the tool, felling devices.

5.3. Report all comments, shortcomings in the work and the measures taken to inform the master.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Shrimp shells will strengthen concrete 14.08.2022

Shrimp shell nanoparticles significantly improved the quality of cement. The technology will reduce fishing waste and carbon emissions.

Researchers at Washington State University and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have created tiny crystals and fibers of chitin from seafood waste. Nanoparticles increase the strength of cement by almost 1,5 times.

Scientists have studied the behavior of chitin nanoparticles. Unlike cellulose, also used to increase the strength of cement, this material has an extra set of atoms at the molecular level. Thanks to this, scientists can control the charge on the surface of the molecules and, therefore, their behavior in the cement slurry.

The study showed that adding processed chitin nanocrystals to cement improves its properties, including its consistency, setting time, strength and durability. They saw a 40% increase in concrete's flexural strength and a 12% improvement in its compressibility. In addition, the modified composition hardened per hour longer. This is necessary to increase the range of transportation and construction in hot climates. Researchers study the strength of cement under pressure.

The shells of crabs, shrimp and lobsters are about 20-30% chitin, with most of the rest being calcium carbonate, another useful cement additive. At the same time, from 13 to 17,5 million kg of fish industry waste is produced annually in the world. Most of them are simply dumped into the sea.

Cement production is a carbon-intensive process requiring the use of fossil fuels to achieve the required high temperatures (1500°C). The limestone used in its production also undergoes decomposition, which produces additional carbon dioxide. At the same time, classic concrete cracks easily, which reduces its durability.

The authors of the work believe that replacing limestone with chitin nanoparticles will help reduce energy costs, the volume of garbage from seafood, and also increase the durability and wear resistance of cement buildings.
