Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What is musical sound?

Each art form has its own pictorial means. Paintings are created using paints and pencils, as well as canvas or paper. The sculptor in his work uses stone, clay, metal, plastic. Poet - words.

And the composer? He writes music using sounds, more precisely, combinations of sounds. And the sounds are connected with each other not just like that, but according to certain musical laws.

All sounds are divided into musical and noise. What is the difference between musical sound and noise sound?

First of all, each musical sound has its own pitch, which makes it possible to distinguish one sound from another, to repeat the sound heard by voice or on a musical instrument.

But noise sounds do not have an exact height - we cannot accurately determine the sound height of noise by ear. Noise is noise. It is impossible to reproduce exactly how a tree rustles in the wind, either with a voice or with a musical instrument. In music, of course, musical sounds are of primary importance, although noise sounds are often used - they are created by many percussion instruments.
A single musical sound has four basic properties: pitch, loudness, timbre, and duration.

The pitch of the sound depends on the frequency of vibration of the object, such as a certain string of a musical instrument, which is the source of the sound. The higher the oscillation frequency, the higher the sound, and vice versa.

Loudness is already determined by the range (amplitude) of oscillations, for example, of the same string. The larger the amplitude, the stronger and more powerful the sound.

But the same musical sound in height and volume can have a completely different color, depending on the method of extracting the sound. One and the same sound, one and the same note, if you take it on the piano or on the flute and sing it, will have different musical colors. The coloring of sound is timbre.

Well, the time occupied by the sound is called the duration of the sound.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Genetics - for the new year 03.12.2001

The largest producers of Christmas trees for American families are the states of Oregon and North Carolina. Actually, in the USA, they didn’t eat, but fir trees are more popular for this holiday: they have longer and more beautiful needles, a well-pronounced aroma, and they last longer without losing their needles.

At the University of North Carolina, arborists and geneticists are working on breeding fir that is resistant to a fungal disease brought to the US from Southeast Asia in the 7th century, root rot. Now about XNUMX percent of the state's fir plantations are affected by root rot. By the way, it is caused by the phytophthora fungus, well known to our gardeners. If the spores of the fungus got into the soil, it is already impossible to get rid of them. American fir seedlings are transplanted onto the roots of two other species that are resistant to root rot.

Meanwhile, Danish breeders have bred larch with reduced moisture evaporation. Such a tree will continue to stand in the room without crumbling and without losing its festive look.
