Did you know?

What is an antidote?

Antidote is not needed until someone has been poisoned. As such, it doesn't matter. This is a substance that prevents the action of poison. And poison, in turn, is also a substance that produces a painful or deadly effect on living tissue.

There are 4 main groups of toxic substances, depending on their effect on the body: corrosive poisons (like caustic acids) destroy biological tissue locally; poisonous poisons paralyze the organs with which they come into contact. Another group of poisons - neurotoxins - affects nerve cells.

And finally, hemotoxins, which, when released into the blood, neutralize oxygen and thereby stop the formation of hemoglobin. Carbon monoxide (car exhaust) is a prime example of a hemotoxin. Hemotoxins cause death because the lack of oxygen in the blood cuts off the nourishment of the tissues and the brain. In case of poisoning, it is very important to follow three steps. The first is to dilute the poison, that is, to give the poisoned person as much water as possible. The second is to clear the stomach by inducing vomiting. This specific antidote is used against certain toxic substances.

In some cases, counteraction with poison may be different. One is to combine the chemical with the poison, making it harmless as a result. For example, acid with soda, vinegar with lye. Poisons can also be protected physically by covering the mucous membranes with a protective layer of olive oil or milk.

The third way is to use substances that absorb the poison. In crushed form, they need to be poured onto the affected surface. For example, you can use charcoal. There are natural toxic substances in the body, which, when combined with the ingested poison, act as antidotes. Of course, one of the main problems that the doctor solves in case of poisoning is how to remove the poison from the body, and there are many ways to achieve this goal.

The best cure for poisoning is to be careful. Toxic substances should be kept out of the reach of children, tightly sealed in clearly labeled containers.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

Which animal has to tear its mouth open each time to feed?

The hydra does not have a mouth opening as such. Each time after the act of feeding, the cells around the oral cone tightly close, forming a layer of ectoderm, similar to the layers of other parts of the body. To start a new meal, the hydra has to tear this area due to muscle effort.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Smart Refrigerator LG Smart InstaView 09.01.2017

LG Electronics (LG) has unveiled its Smart InstaView refrigerator running the webOS operating system.

The main feature of the novelty is a giant touch screen with a diagonal of 29 inches, mounted in one of the doors. In addition, there is a Wi-Fi wireless adapter for connecting to the Internet.

Through the screen, you can view recipes, leave notes for family members, make a to-do list and set reminders. Implemented support for Amazon Alexa voice assistant.

Inside the refrigerator is a 2-megapixel camera with ultra wide-angle optics. The image from it can be displayed on the screen, which allows you to "look" inside Smart InstaView without opening the door. In addition, pictures from the camera can be sent to a mobile device.

The novelty is made in accordance with the Door-in-Door concept ("door-in-door"): it provides for an additional door, discreetly built into the main door. This makes it easier to access the most frequently needed products, and also helps to reduce the loss of cold air from the main refrigerator compartment. In addition, Door-in-Door technology helps keep food fresh for much longer by reducing temperature fluctuations.
