Focus Description:

Show the audience a wide box without a bottom, with a longitudinal bend on both sides, holding it in a “diamond” shape (Fig. a). Having convinced everyone that there is nothing in it, fold it in half (Fig. b), and it will immediately turn into a narrow and long “without bends” box, more reminiscent of a rectangular tube (Fig. c). From such a modified box, remove a thin, bright, colored scarf.

Focus secret:

The secret of the trick is in the box itself, which has a double bottom. This bottom, in which you can hide a scarf, a balloon, several playing cards, etc., also allows the box to change - becoming either wide, then narrow and long.

It is made from thin cardboard or three-layer Whatman paper. On the two central squares - a development consisting of four identical squares measuring 10 x 10 cm - exactly the same development of two squares is glued on the outside (Fig. d).

After this, this entire development is glued into a lock (Fig. e). Before gluing both unfolds, a longitudinal bend is made on all of them, dividing each square in half. This allows you to “turn” a wide, bottomless box, when folded in half, into a narrow and long one.

To do this, you just need to lightly press the folded box from the sides, and it will bend 90° and open along the bends. After this, all that remains is to remove the scarf located there. When, from the very beginning, you demonstrate an open wide box with a “diamond” shape, the “charges” behind its double walls, located on two squares, are not visible to the audience.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Electronic system for simultaneous interpretation into the sign language of the deaf and dumb 27.05.2003

The Institute of Computer Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as a result of the development of intelligent command recognition technologies, created a computer system for simultaneous translation into sign language. It is intended for deaf children.

According to the project manager, Professor Gao Wen, this system has no analogues in the world and is capable of recognizing over 5 gestures. The words spoken by the operator are translated into sign language by the computer and displayed on the monitor. Now deaf and dumb TV viewers will be able to "listen" to the news.

The system can also be used for teaching sign language, as an electronic dictionary or as a tour guide.
