Focus Description:

The magician turns over the pages of the stamp album, demonstrating that there is nothing on them (the stamps are not stuck on). He then places the album on the table in full view of the audience, where it remains untouched for the rest of the performance.

Next, the magician shows a pile of stamps, which he places in an empty paper bag. He immediately unwraps the bag. But the stamps are not scattered throughout the scene, because they are not in the bag: they have disappeared. Without hesitation, the magician picks up an empty stamp album and begins to slowly turn its pages. The missing stamps appeared on the empty pages of the album: pasted in neat rows, they completely filled the album.

Focus secret:

A. Buy black craft paper to make approximately 20 sheets measuring 20x29cm. Place the sheets into two piles of ten sheets each. Trim the edges of all sheets of one stack diagonally.

B.Next, cut 10 sheets of another stack. Again the horizontal distance between the points should be 5mm.

C. Collect the sheets in one stack, alternating sheets - one with one diagonal trim, the next with another, and so on.

D. Pierce carefully selected sheets in three places on one side, as shown in the figure, and fasten them into an album with bronze pins. You can add two pages of a different color as the front and back covers of the album. Next step: buy a few bags of inexpensive postage stamps at the store. Starting on the left page of the first sheet (page 2), place the stamps in even rows on this page and on the next one (page 3). Leave the next spread blank. Then stick the stamps on the next spread (pages 6 and 7). And until the end of the album you stick stamps, alternating a spread with stamps with a blank spread. Thus, pages 2 and 3, 6 and 7, 10 and 11, 14 and 15 and 18 and 19 will be filled with stamps. Pages 1, 4 and 5, 8 and 9, 12 and 13, 16 and 17 and 20 will be blank.

E. Check your work: grasp the base of the album with your left hand. Flip through the album, opening the pages at the bottom corner with your right thumb. You will see that the album is empty. By cutting the pages diagonally, your thumb will only be able to open the blank pages of the album as you flip through it. Pages with stamps automatically turn after the blank ones, and no one will see them in the process of flipping two pages at a time from one album cover to another.

F.Close the album and repeat the process, this time turning the pages with your thumb in the top corner. Now you will leaf through an album completely filled with stamps. You will also need loose stamps that are not glued into the album. Place them in a cellophane or clear plastic bag (a glass will do). Finally, you need to make "Useful bag"Place the album and the Useful Bag on the table, and the bag of stamps in your pocket (or on the table). 1. Take the album from the table and show it to the audience. Then flip past the bottom corners of the pages, allowing viewers to see that the album is "empty."

2. Place the album on the table in full view of everyone. It’s better to place it, leaning it against something on the table that you already have. The main thing is that the audience sees the album at all times while the demonstration of the trick continues.

3. Show the bag of stamps to the audience. Then take the Useful Bag from the table and openly put all the stamps from the bag into it, but in a secret pocket.

4. Make a magical gesture over the bag and over the album. Immediately unfold the bag and show that all the stamps have disappeared! Do not forget that during this operation the secret pocket must be closed.

5. Take the album and leaf through it, turning the pages at the top corner. The stamps will magically fill all the pages of the album, which was completely empty before the performance!

If you don't feel like making an album yourself, buy an inexpensive photo album from a store. The best would be an album with black pages, preferably at least 20. You can easily remove the pages from the photo album and prepare them as suggested.

The bus recognizes the pedestrian 01.07.2014

Scientists from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), in collaboration with the Spanish company Cognitive Robots, have developed a system for detecting people dangerously close to the bus. The technology will not only warn the driver of a large vehicle about the risk of a collision with a pedestrian, but will also take control of the car in emergency situations.

The novelty involves the installation of numerous video cameras around the perimeter of the bus, allowing you to control the areas hidden from the side mirrors. The surround view system displays an image on a screen located on the dashboard next to the steering wheel. With the help of special software, the picture is analyzed and the person in the frame is recognized, and the driver sees him on the display, and also hears a warning signal about a possible danger.

If the driver of the bus does not take steps to avoid an accident involving a pedestrian, the system will slightly correct the trajectory of the vehicle and slow it down. If necessary, the machine will be completely stopped.

For a more accurate operation of the software and hardware complex, the researchers used a huge number of photographs taken in various places in Valencia with the most intense pedestrian traffic. In total, about 12 images of people were taken, according to which the system now determines the presence of a person next to the bus, said Leopoldo Armesto, a researcher at UPV's Institute of Design and Production.

According to the researchers, the new technology is primarily designed to protect children, who, due to their small stature and increased activity, risk falling under the wheels of a bus.
