Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Modified hydrogen peroxide instead of antibiotics 10.04.2019

Hydrogen peroxide can become a new answer to the old question of how to effectively deal with even the most aggressive and unusual viral bacteria that continue to evolve and become more and more resistant to modern antibiotics.

Specialists from the Engineering Laboratory at Boston University in the USA presented the results of their new and rather unusual experiment, which considered the possibility of modifying hydrogen peroxide for use on viral bacteria, thus destroying their membrane and leading to their immediate death without the use of antibiotics.

The fact is that most of the so-called MRSA bacteria, which bacteriologists around the world are fighting against, have a rather pronounced and strong ability to constantly adapt and adopt entire genetic chains from other bacteria that have previously been adapted to certain antibiotics. That is why specialists from Boston University decided to conduct a series of tests using hydrogen peroxide on several strains of the Staphylococcus aureus virus - and hydrogen peroxide was previously treated with blue light, after which it was directed to viral bacteria.

After observing their reaction, scientists found that with this treatment, hydrogen peroxide was able to destroy up to 99,9% of MRSA bacteria, indicating a promising possibility for its use as an alternative to modern antibiotics. Moreover, in this way, scientists managed to destroy up to 90% of bacterial cultures that could not adapt to the compound.

The rest was similarly weakened by the action of modified hydrogen peroxide, but still develops a certain immunity over time, thereby requiring more drastic measures in relation to working with oneself. However, experts still have some additional research and experiments in this field, and therefore it remains to wait for the end of the preliminary stage of testing.
