Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

1/4" 8 MP OmniVision OV8856 and OV88565 image sensors 14.09.2015

The resolution of mobile device cameras continues to increase. The main cameras confidently took the 10-megapixel mark, and the flagship smartphone models have twice the resolution. The front cameras, due to their supporting role, are somewhat behind, but their resolution is also increasing.

OmniVision analysts predict more than a billion units of 2017MP image sensors will be sold in 8 as the industry shifts to using front-facing sensors instead of the most common 5MP sensors today. In this case, the optical format 1/4 inch will remain unchanged.

Yesterday, OmniVision introduced two models of 1/4-inch 8MP image sensors for front cameras: OV8856 and OV88565. A distinctive feature of the OV88565 model is the support for phase focusing.

The new sensors use the proprietary PureCel architecture. The pixel size is 1,12 µm. The sensors allow you to shoot full resolution video at 30 fps and shoot Full HD video at 60 fps. In addition, support for high dynamic range (iHDR) should be noted. The sensors are equipped with four lines of the MIPI interface (two lines of MIPI are enough to display frames with a resolution of 8 megapixels without compression at a frequency of 30 fps). According to the manufacturer, OV8856 is one of the smallest 8MP sensors. It is 15% smaller than the similar OmniVision OV8858 of the previous generation. Using OV8856, it is possible to produce camera modules with dimensions of 6,5 x 6,5 x 4mm.

The OmniVision OV8856 and OV88565 image sensors are now available as evaluation samples. Serial production will begin in the fourth quarter of 2015.
