Safe Operation

1. General requirements for labor protection

General labor protection requirements are set out in the instructions "General requirements for labor protection for workers engaged in logging and forestry work".

2. Labor protection requirements before starting work

2.1. Receive instructions from the foreman or foreman on which cutting area to prune the branches. Unauthorized transition to another cutting area is not permitted.

2.2. Before starting the engine of a gasoline-powered saw, you should:

  • conduct an external inspection of the saw, make sure that all its parts are in good condition and secure;
  • put on and tension the saw chain;
  • check the serviceability of felling devices;
  • fill the tank of the petrol-powered saw with a combustible mixture. Use of leaded gasoline for a combustible mixture is not allowed;
  • remove fuel and gasoline residues from the surface of the saw by wiping.

It is forbidden to refuel the saw with a fuel mixture at a distance of less than 20 m from an open flame, and also to smoke during refueling.

2.3. When starting the saw engine, you must:

  • place the saw so that the teeth of the saw do not touch the surrounding objects;
  • make sure that there are no unauthorized persons at a distance of at least 1,5 m;
  • take a stable position, start the engine;
  • warm up the engine at low speeds;
  • Run in a new circuit at idle;
  • Test sawing to make sure that the saw chain is sharpened correctly and that the tool works properly.
  • after stopping the engine, adjust the chain tension.

2.4. Any malfunctions found during the inspection and testing of the gasoline-powered saw, if it is impossible to eliminate them on your own, should be reported to the master or mechanic. It is not allowed to work with a defective saw.

3. Labor protection requirements during work

3.1. The employee must perform only the work that is entrusted to him by his immediate supervisor.

3.2. Before starting work, you should inspect the workplace and plan the sequence of cleaning trees from branches; if necessary, clear the paths to the trees.

3.3. It is necessary to cut branches in the direction from the butt to the top of the tree.

3.4. Before pruning, trees lying along a slope with a steepness of 20° or more or across a slope with a steepness of 15° or more must be tied to stumps.

3.5. When pruning branches, the saw must either rest on the trunk or slide along it, moving from knot to knot.

The saw bar must be brought to the knot smoothly, without jerking or impact, at a right angle. It is prohibited to saw with the end part of the sawing apparatus to avoid throwing the saw towards the worker.

3.6. When pruning branches, you should take a stable position on the left side of the tree, placing your feet at a distance of 30 - 40 cm from each other. The ends of the feet should not be closer than 10 - 12 cm from the tree. The position of the legs can only be changed after the end of the working cycle or when the saw bar is on the opposite side of the trunk and the saw body rests on the trunk.

3.7. The lower branches are cut separately. The branches on which the tree rests are cut, taking the necessary measures to prevent the trunk from moving and settling on its legs. The legs should be in an uncluttered area 30 - 40 cm from the trunk.

3.8. Cutting branches from the worker's side should be carried out with the upper branch of the chain, moving the saw away from you.

3.9. When cutting thick branches with a saw, you must:

  • sawing should be performed after bringing the saw stop to the branch;
  • cut off tense branches in two steps (first trim the tense fibers, and then trim the branches flush with the trunk);
  • To avoid pinching the sawing apparatus, saw off long branches at a distance of 1,0 - 1,5 m from the base, and then flush with the trunk.

3.10. Pruning branches on windfall trees should be done after heating the butt block.

3.11. It is not allowed to come closer than 5 m to the worker performing limb trimming.

3.12. When moving from one tree to another, the saw motor must be turned off.

3.13. When cutting branches, it is not allowed:

  • violate the 50-meter dangerous zone of felling;
  • cut branches from an unstable tree;
  • cut branches from trees lying in heaps;
  • stand on a tree trunk and its branches;
  • work with a dull saw chain;
  • repair the saw and refuel with the engine running;
  • use body weight for additional pressure on the power tool;
  • put your feet under the trunk.

4. Labor protection requirements in emergency situations

4.1. If the engine overheats, stop it and let it cool down. Do not cool the engine with water or snow.

4.2. Work must be stopped when a violation of the danger zone is detected, as well as during heavy rain, thunderstorms, heavy snowfall, thick fog (visibility on flat terrain is less than 50 m, in mountainous areas - less than 60 m) and wind speed more than 11 m/s on flat terrain and 8,5 m/s in mountainous conditions.

4.3. When clamping the saw unit in the groove, turn off the engine and only then release the saw unit.

4.4. If it is necessary to eliminate the malfunction that has arisen during operation and maintenance of the gasoline-powered saw, it is necessary to turn off the engine.

4.5. The victim or eyewitness must notify the foreman or the appropriate work manager of each accident.

4.6. Each worker must be able to provide first aid. Assistance must be provided immediately at the scene of the incident. The first step is to eliminate the source of injury (turn off the engine, stop the mechanism, remove the victim from under the whip, etc.). The provision of assistance should begin with the most significant that threatens the health or life of a person: in case of severe bleeding, apply a tourniquet, and then bandage the wound; if a closed fracture is suspected, apply a splint; with open fractures, you should first bandage the wound, and then apply a splint; for burns, apply a dry bandage; in case of frostbite, gently rub the affected area using soft or fluffy tissues.

If spinal injuries are suspected, the victim can only be transported in the supine position on a rigid base.

After providing first aid, the victim should be sent to the nearest medical facility.

5. Labor protection requirements at the end of work

5.1. Upon completion of work, you should:

  • clean the saw from sawdust and dirt;
  • carry out a preventive inspection of the saw;
  • lubricate the saw in accordance with the instruction manual and store in the designated place.

5.2. Any deficiencies in the field of labor protection must be reported to the foreman or the relevant work manager.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Single housing digital UV sensor 13.02.2014

Silicon Labs announced the release of the industry's first single package UV sensor. This sensor can monitor sunlight exposure, heart rate and blood oxygen saturation (pulse oximetry), as well as implement proximity response and gesture control functions in mobile and wearable electronic devices.

Sensors Si1132 and Si114x, according to the manufacturer, will find application in physical activity monitors in the form of bracelets and cuffs, smart watches and smartphones. In addition to measuring the UV index, they allow you to evaluate the level of ambient light in the visible range and measure infrared radiation.

The ability to measure the intensity of ultraviolet radiation will allow sensor-equipped devices to warn the user of danger by analyzing the total exposure over time and comparing it with acceptable values.

The Si1132 sensor operates in the UV and visible light range. It is equipped with I2C interface.

The Si1145/46/47 sensors additionally cover the infrared range. Among themselves, they differ in the presence of one, two or three LED drivers with 15 brightness levels, which are used in gesture recognition systems.

Currently, such solutions include an external sensor, an ADC, and a microcontroller. Silicon Labs sensors take up 2 x 2 mm space on the board. They are available in 10-pin QFN packages. Price Si1132 - $1,1, Si114x - from $1,32.
