What literary character Dumas was invented only to increase the fee? When Alexandre Dumas wrote The Three Musketeers in the format of a novel with a sequel in one of the newspapers, the contract with the publisher stipulated line-by-line payment for the manuscript. To increase the fee, Dumas invented a servant of Athos named Grimaud, who spoke and answered all questions exclusively in monosyllables, in most cases "yes" or "no". The continuation of the book called "Twenty Years Later" was already paid by the word, and Grimaud became a little more talkative. Authors: Jimmy Wales, Larry Sanger Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia: Who discovered medicine? The first person to help someone feel better can be called the first doctor. For example, a person who pulled a splinter out of someone's finger did what a doctor does. Primitive people used a kind of medicine that we can call magic. They used spells, or songs, or decoctions of herbs and leaves. By chance, they may have discovered that the heat of a fire relieves sprains in the shoulder, and that warm drinking of herbs helps with stomach pains. Many primitive peoples still today correct a dislocation in this way, or splint a broken bone, or use plants that have laxative properties or can put people to sleep. Doctors appeared in early civilizations. The Babylonians left many medical books, with such clear descriptions of various diseases that physicians today can recognize them. The ancient Egyptians used medical treatment and gave the sick pills, ointments, medicines containing drugs. They even performed surgical operations on the external organs of the body. A man named Aesculapius was the first physician in Greek history. He used mainly magical medicine. But gradually true medicine began to develop. A man named Hippocrates who lived around 400 B.C. BC, did so much to rid medicine of magic and superstition that he was called the "Father of Medicine". In his books, he taught that the doctor should carefully and carefully examine the patient. He should apply gentle treatment and try to maintain natural healing. A doctor should never harm a patient. He must keep medical confidentiality. Hippocrates also discovered and described many diseases. Some of his medical findings are as relevant today as they were over 2 years ago. So, we can call him the first doctor in the world in the sense that we put into this word today.
