How did science originate?

What do you associate the word "scientist" with? Apparently, this is the one who studies the world or man, builds observatories and conducts experiments, and who then forms certain principles and rules. But until the XNUMXth century, if people wanted to solve a problem or understand something, they simply read everything that was written about it or asked the opinion of the authorities.

Shortly after 1600, Galileo Galilei founded a new method. He began to experience things and observe what happens to them. In other words, he was experimenting. Gradually more and more people began to experience things and write down the results. The more facts became known, the more often they came to the conclusion that some of them are interconnected. These relationships were combined into scientific principles and used as a guide for other experiments.

Thus, the foundations of knowledge, called science, began to spread rapidly. The presence of a large number of natural relationships between individual facts was the reason that science was divided into separate areas (branches). Today there are many different branches of science. The natural sciences study the objects and phenomena around us.

The object of study of the social sciences is human life and activity. These sciences are basic or pure. They study the facts and establish general principles. Applied sciences use these facts and principles in various fields of human activity. Examples of applied sciences are pharmaceuticals, medicine, forestry, civil engineering, and more.

What set of numbers equals one in the UK in the legal sense?

In the UK, in the legal sense, all numbers greater than 0,5 and less than 1,5 are assigned to the unit. The reason for this decision was a lawsuit between two pharmaceutical companies. One of them owns a patent for a wound healing agent containing silver ions from 1 to 25% by weight of the drug, and the other has released a similar agent, which includes 0,77% of such ions. Previously, in such cases, numbers greater than 0,95 were taken as a unit, however, when considering the case, the court found an asymmetry in the definition, decided to consider everything in the range from 0,5 to 1,5 as a unit, and thereby satisfied the claim for patent infringement.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Foxconn Banana Pi Platform for Mini PCs and Embedded Systems 24.09.2014

Foxconn introduced the Banana Pi platform, designed to create mini-PCs and embedded systems. The novelty is a functional computer, the overall dimensions of which are 92x60 mm. It is intended primarily for corporate users and enthusiasts.

Thanks to the support of open source software, the computer allows you to program the system for a variety of tasks. The novelty can work as a cloud server, provide control of home electrical appliances, act as a media center, maintain a security system, be used as a remote control for aircraft models, decode HD video streams, run games, etc.

The system has great potential thanks to its support for multiple operating systems: Banana Pi works equally well under Google Android, Ubuntu, Raspbian and Debian. The user will be able to use thousands of programs written by enthusiasts and intended for free distribution.

The system uses an AllWinner A20 dual-core processor based on ARM Cortex-A7 cores with its own Mali-400MP2 graphics chip, and 1 GB of DDR3 RAM. All user data can be stored both on SD memory cards and hard drives (SATA interface). External peripherals can be connected via two USB 2.0 ports, as well as a 3,5 mm audio jack. Video is output via HDMI, LVDS, CVBS and AV interfaces. For Internet access and home networking, there is a full-size Ethernet connector with a bandwidth of 10-1000 Mbps. Among other hardware features of Banana Pi, the developer notes a built-in infrared port that can be used to work with remote controls, as well as a microphone and an OTG connector.

The system is characterized by low power consumption: for its operation there is enough power from the MicroUSB port (power can also be supplied through an adapter from a household outlet). Also, the device is distinguished by a very wide range of opportunities opened by the ARMv7 platform, but at the same time it provides support for applications that were written under ARMv6.

Necessary accessories users can order separately. For example, two types of cases will be available, a SATA cable, and a charger (5V, 2A).

Foxconn Banana Pi is expected in retail sales in the end of Q50. at a recommended price of $55-XNUMX.
