How hot is the sun?

It is usually difficult for people to believe that the Sun is an ordinary star. Our daily experience would seem to show that the stars are small dots in the sky and their light is cold and dim, while the opposite is true of the Sun. We should not forget that the distance from the Earth to the next star after the Sun is 150 times greater than the distance to the Sun! However, the nature of the Sun is the same as the nature of other stars, which means that it is a collection of hot gases.

What is the temperature on the surface of the Sun? Scientists believe that it corresponds to about 6000 ° C. In order for you to understand what this means, you need to remember that in a white-hot melt of iron during steelmaking, the temperature is about 1430 ° C.

As for the inner part of the Sun, according to scientists' estimates, it is much more "hot" there - 20 ° C. However, this is still only speculation. We know too little about the internal structure of the Sun. Even with the help of modern instruments it is very difficult to look into the core of the Sun, hiding under four shells of gaseous matter.

At what point in the Matrix can you see the smile of the Cheshire Cat?

There are many parallels to Alice in Wonderland in The Matrix, including some that can only be seen when reading the script. Offering two pills to Neo's choice, Morpheus says, "Choose the red one, you stay in Wonderland and I'll show you how deep that rabbit hole goes." And when Neo makes the right choice, the smile of the Cheshire cat appears on Morpheus's face.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Brain implants to control robotic prostheses 31.05.2015

The level of technology of our time does not even allow us to talk closely about such things as controlling something with the power of thought. At least if we mean exactly what is usually meant by such a formulation.

But on the other hand, there are many projects and ready-made solutions that do not use thought as a formulated idea of something, but directly the so-called "brain waves". For example, back in 2008, OCZ showed the NIA controller, which recorded not only the activity of the facial muscles, but also those very low-intensity electromagnetic waves.

But game controllers based on such technologies, even after seven years, are, in fact, nothing more than pampering. But robotic prostheses controlled by the "power of thought" are really extremely useful for the disabled.

The main problems of all such devices are the high complexity of prosthesis control at the initial stages, as well as a certain differentiation of actions. Both problems come from the technology itself. For more or less full-fledged work with such devices, a fairly long calibration is required. But even after the user gets used to it, the second problem remains. The fact is that a person in ordinary life does not think about how to perform this or that action with his hand or foot. We do not even think that we want to make some kind of movement (of course, there are exceptions). In the case of prostheses, everything is different. A person has to think through every step of a particular movement (raise his arm, bend at the elbow, stretch, and so on).

But a new development from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) could make life easier for people in need. Specially designed implants are placed in the posterior parietal cortex, while often similar solutions are implanted in another part of the brain. The bottom line is that this part of the brain is not responsible for the work of the muscles, but for the "intention" to perform some kind of action.

The development, unlike many others, has already been tested in practice. Paralyzed for the past 13 years, Erik Sorto received new implants. According to the thematic resources, Sorto was happy that he was able to drink a can of beer on his own. Moreover, it is claimed that Sorto was able to control the prosthesis on the first day after the operation.
