Focus Description:

The performer has a pistol in his hands. It looks the most ordinary. The magician takes a handkerchief, covers the hole in the barrel of the gun with it and shoots. The scarf disappeared without a trace! The performer puts the gun on the table, goes into the auditorium and pulls out from one of the spectators from behind the collar the very same scarf that disappeared during the shot.

Focus secret:

For this trick, you need two identical scarves measuring 20x20 or 25x25 cm. The performer hides one scarf under his jacket in advance. Walking into the auditorium, he pulls out this particular scarf from the spectator’s collar. And the handkerchief that covered the barrel of the gun when it was fired is pulled inside the barrel using a secret mechanism.

In Fig. 23, A shows the structure of this mechanism. As we can see, the pistol consists of two parts: the handle and the barrel. Both parts have secret devices. The barrel is made of aluminum, its length is 225 mm, diameter is 20 mm. There is a 5 mm slot 15 mm from the muzzle. From the side of this slot along the barrel, a metal rod is fixed on hinges, which is 20 mm shorter than the barrel (Fig. 23, B). One end of the rod, 5 mm long, is bent into the slot, the second, 20 mm long, is bent away from the trunk.

In the middle of the handle, in the lower part, there is a metal ring and the trigger release lever, and in the upper part there is a trigger. In the recess of the handle, in its upper part, a small metal tongue for the piston is attached.

In Fig. 23, B shows a cross-section of the pistol. As we can see, a metal cylinder 40 mm long is fixed at the base of the handle. A twisted spiral wire is inserted into this cylinder. One end of it is attached to the wall of a metal cylinder, and a wooden plug with a slot on the side is attached to the other end of the wire. In the middle of the cork there is a metal ring, and on both sides there are two hooks (the hooks on the cork are designed to hook a handkerchief, which should disappear when fired). A wire spiral with a plug is laid along the trunk. Now you need to connect the pistol barrel to the handle so that the spiral with the plug fits inside the barrel. After this, the barrel is fully inserted into the metal cylinder of the handle, and the gun is ready.

But in order for it to function, one more piece will be needed - a piece of strong metal wire. It is bent into a loop and this loop is screwed with a screw to the side of the handle. One end of the wire forming a loop is directed along the barrel, and the other - parallel to the trigger lever, and the loop should be screwed so that the wire lever remains movable. This part is a second, secret trigger and at the same time a fuse.

The pistol is “loaded” before the performance. To do this, you need to pull the plug with a special hook (Fig. 23, D) to the very beginning of the barrel and secure the bent end of the rod in its slot. The second end of the rod is placed on a secret fuse. After this, the real hammer is cocked and the piston is inserted.

When preparing a trick, it is necessary to take into account that all secret devices must be facing the performer. In addition, for the trick to be successful, you must simultaneously press both the regular trigger and the secret trigger to fire. Then there will be a spectacular shot and the scarf will disappear.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Electric car Hyundai IONIQ 6 18.07.2022

The Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Company has officially announced the serial version of the Hyundai IONIQ 6 electric car. The model is a sedan with the most aerodynamic "sloping" silhouette, its overall dimensions are 4855 x 1880 x 1495 mm (wheelbase - 2950 mm).

Just like other brothers in the IONIQ line, the novelty is based on the proprietary Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) with support for 400/800V charging architecture. Buyers will be offered a single-engine rear-wheel drive RWD version or a twin-engine all-wheel drive AWD version. In the latter case, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 electric car will receive a power of 239 kW and a torque of 605 Nm, which allows it to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 5,1 seconds.

It will also be possible to choose two battery options - 53 kWh or 77,4 kWh, a more capacious option will provide a range of 610 km on the WLTP measuring cycle. From a powerful 350 kW high-speed charge, it takes only 10 minutes to charge from 80 to 18% of the battery capacity. It also supports V2L (vehicle-to-load) technology, which turns an electric car into a mobile power generator.

The driver gets at his disposal two 12-inch screens with basic digital data and additional / entertainment information, respectively. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems are supported, as well as dual-channel Bluetooth connection with smartphones, for example, you can use one for calls and the other for streaming music at the same time.

The car is equipped with a digital assistant system - the driver receives a whole complex under the general name Hyundai SmartSense (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).
