The first method

Focus Description:

The magician takes a deck of cards from the table and carefully shuffles them. He passes the deck to his left hand, and with his right he takes out hearts from the middle of the ace and shows it to the audience (Fig. 80, A). A slight wave of the hand - and everyone sees that a card has appeared in it - a five of hearts (Fig. 80, B). Again, a slight wave - and the audience sees a trio of worms (Fig. 80, B). Another sharp wave of the hand - and a nine of worms appears (Fig. 80, D).

The artist can demonstrate this trick several times. In conclusion, having shown the ace of hearts, he again makes a sharp movement - in his hands is a clean card without points.

Props:

One card, specially prepared.

Card deck.

Focus secret:

Two cards are chosen from the deck - a three and a nine of hearts. Carefully, with a safety razor blade, one point is scraped from the three (Fig. 80, D). At the nine of worms, two middle lateral points are scraped out (Fig. 80, E). Scraped places are carefully smoothed out. Then the spots of one of the cards are carefully smeared with glue, the other is glued to it and placed under a heavy press until they dry. The result is one double-sided card: on one side it has two points, on the other - seven. Having shuffled the deck, the magician can easily take the desired card: it is thicker than the rest. The card is taken with the right hand (see Fig. 80, A), the bottom point is closed with the thumb. The audience is convinced they are seeing the ace of hearts.

Lightly waving his hand, the illusionist turns the card over to the other side and pinches three points (see Fig. 80, B). At the next wave, the magician again turns the card over and immediately pinches an empty space with his finger. Spectators see a trio of worms (see Fig. 80, B). Then the performer, turning the card over imperceptibly again, pinches an empty space and one point - a nine of hearts is obtained (see Fig. 80, D). Having shown any of the named cards for the last time, the magician imperceptibly takes out a blank card from his pocket and palms it in the palm of his left hand; bringing his left hand to his right, he secretly puts an empty card on the other side of the card that he holds with his right hand. A wave of the hand - and the audience sees a clean card without points.

When performing this number, find the most convenient way for you to hide the double prepared card.

second method

Focus Description:

The magician shuffles the cards and, removing the top one, puts the deck on the table. Everyone sees a triple of worms in his right hand (Fig. 81, A). The performer holds his left hand in front of his right - and the three of hearts "turns" into an ace of hearts (Fig. 81,5). Again, a wave of the left hand - and in the right, instead of the ace, the queen of spades (Fig. 81, B). Immediately the magician waves his right hand - the queen of spades disappears, the king of clubs appears (Fig. 81, 1). Another wave of the left hand in front of the right (moreover, the magician does not bring his hands close to one another), and instead of the king of clubs, everyone sees a jack of diamonds (Fig. 81, D).

If desired, this trick can be repeated in reverse order.

Props:

Ordinary deck of cards.

Map specially prepared for the trick.

Focus secret:

The secret lies in a specially prepared map (Fig. 82, A and B). Half of the card is glued to a thin piece of cardboard the size of a card or to an ordinary card, its second half is fastened with another light, durable material and can be folded like on a loop. The queen of spades is glued onto the red three, cut in half and fastened in the middle with a strip of material. On the second free side of the Queen of Spades, half a blank card is pasted, drawing the sign of worms on it. The result is a card that can optionally be a queen of spades, an ace, or a three of hearts. Half of the king of clubs is glued to the other side of the card, half of the jack of diamonds is glued to the second rug of the king of clubs (cut in half and fastened with a strip of material), and the second half of the jack of diamonds is glued to the reverse side of the three of hearts.

The manufacture of the "chameleon" card is described in detail. Before showing it to the audience, you need to carefully practice in front of the mirror. With a certain skill, you can change the card without blocking it with your left hand, but only slightly waving your right hand. This makes a much greater impression on the audience.

Before the start of the trick, the prepared card is placed in the deck. No matter how you shuffle the deck later, it's very easy to make sure that this card is on top. Several different prepared maps should be made to avoid repetition when showing the number to the same audience. We emphasize that the glued cards must be placed under a very strong press, where they must dry well. Only after that you can fold the cards several times and return them to their original position.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Smart t-shirt will prevent an asthma attack 24.05.2017

Canadian scientists sewed a sensor into the fabric that can determine the frequency of inhalations and exhalations. The device will help you quickly and easily diagnose asthma and other dangerous respiratory diseases.

Researchers at the Center for Optics, Photonics and Laser Engineering at Laval University in Canada have developed a smart t-shirt that tracks the frequency of inhalations and exhalations in real time. The data collected by the T-shirt can be used for early diagnosis of respiratory diseases such as asthma or sleep apnea.

Asthma is not always easy to diagnose quickly: characteristic acute attacks of shortness of breath, choking and dry wheezing can be symptoms of other diseases - pneumonia, bronchitis or even a heart attack. To make a diagnosis, doctors observe the patient, including regularly measuring the rhythm of breathing. Wearable devices that measure the frequency of inhalations and exhalations can significantly facilitate and speed up diagnosis.

Just below the collar of the T-shirt, an antenna is sewn in from a fiber-optic tube, coated on the inside with a thin layer of silver, and on the outside with a protective polymer coating. When a person in a T-shirt takes a breath, the sensor captures the increase in chest volume and air volume in the lungs and translates them into a wireless signal that is transmitted to a smartphone or computer.

To measure the rhythm of breathing, the sensor does not have to fit snugly against the skin: just wearing a T-shirt is enough, the authors of the development say. The sensor works when a person in a T-shirt is standing, walking, sitting or lying down. Moreover, the sensor works even after washing with powder - Canadian engineers washed the T-shirt 20 times, and even after that it continued to work.
