Focus Description:

To demonstrate the trick, you need to have six chips, on both sides of which there are numbers. The numbers on the top row should be written in thick lines, and the numbers on the bottom row should be thinner.

The magician asks the viewer to shuffle the chips between the palms, and then arrange them on the table in two rows of three chips each. While the magician is standing with his back, the spectator turns over three chips, without telling which ones. Then the magician asks to turn over a few more chips. After that, the viewer takes any chip at will, turns it over and covers it with something, for example, a coin, so that the number is not visible. He does the same with two more chips. Now on the table three chips are open and three are closed. At this moment, the magician turns and calls the sum of the three closed numbers.

Focus secret:

Before turning away from the table, the magician takes a cursory glance at the chips and remembers the location of those that are facing up in bold numbers. After the spectator turns over three random pieces, the shower asks him to turn over a few more pieces. He says: "Please turn over the second chip in the first row and the third chip in the bottom row." These chips must be the ones whose positions he remembered (which were initially in the places occupied by the chips with bold numbers up).

Now the spectator flips over three chips, covering each of them with a coin. The magician turns to the audience and makes the following calculations in his mind: he notices the number of chips facing the bold numbers up (it will be equal to zero, one, two or three), and multiplies this number by 10. Adds 15 to the resulting number. Subtracts from this amount the sum of three open numbers. The remainder will be equal to the sum of the top numbers on the three chips covered with coins.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

High-precision measurements of the mass of the W-boson 17.02.2018

Scientists working in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider have made the first ever high-precision measurements of the mass-energy of the W boson. This boson is one of two elementary particles responsible for the forces of weak nuclear interactions, one of the four types of fundamental forces that determine the behavior and properties of all matter in our Universe. The value of the W-boson mass obtained by scientists is 80370+-19 MeV (megaelectronvolt), which is fully within the framework of the Standard Model of Particle Physics, a theory that describes all known elementary particles and the types of interaction between them.

The measurement of the W-boson mass is based on a data set of about 14 million such particles collected in 2011, when the collider was still operating at 7 TeV. The obtained value corresponds to the data of previous measurements performed at the LEP (ancestor of the LHC) and Tevatron accelerators. The key point for the measurements was the high-precision calibration of the sensors of the ATLAS experiment and detailed modeling of the W-boson generation process. And the actual measurements were made on the basis of data on events associated with Z-bosons, and the results of other indirect measurements.

The W boson is one of the heaviest known particles. It was discovered in 1983 at the Super proton-antiproton Synchrotron accelerator of the European Organization for Nuclear Research CERN, and in 1984 the Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded for this discovery. Despite the fact that the properties of the W boson have been studied for more than 30 years, no one has ever been able to measure its mass with sufficiently high accuracy.

"The data collected at the accelerators of previous generations over the entire period of their operation could not provide the necessary accuracy in measuring the mass of the W-boson," says Tancredi Carli, one of the coordinators of the ATLAS Collaboration, "We managed to collect all the necessary data only for one year of operation of the accelerator. And now, when the collider is operating at its full capacity, we have a good opportunity to obtain more accurate results and research in the field of the so-called new physics, physics that goes beyond the Standard Model."

In conclusion, it should be noted that the high-precision measurement of the mass of the W-boson, the true quark and the Higgs boson is a key moment in the search for new physics. After all, any deviation of the practically obtained value of the mass from the theoretical one can indicate the existence of fundamentally new phenomena that are in conflict with the Standard Model.
