Session description:

Two people are invited onto the stage to help the magician in his performance. They sit down on chairs, one on the right side of the proscenium and the other on the left. Near one of them there is a small black board (like a blackboard) and chalk lies. The artist distributes duties among his assistants. He gives one of them a package for safekeeping with wax seals and asks him to keep it so that he is always in front of the public, and he asks the second (sitting next to the board) at the direction of the magician and in the course of the performance to make large and clear notes on the board so that they could easily be read by those sitting in the hall.

Then the host goes to a table in the middle of the stage and takes three books from various things lying on it. All three have the same single color bindings and the same format. Only when the artist opened their bindings did the audience see that they were completely different books. One - "Russian Tales", the second - "Poems", the third - "Fables". Having closed the covers and shuffled the books, the presenter asks the audience to choose one of them, any. He holds books in a fan. "Left!", "Right!", "Middle!" - rushing from the hall; opinions differ. Then the artist proposes to choose a book by a majority of votes, and asks his assistants to count the votes during the voting - count one in the right half, and the other in the left half of the hall. He offers books closed one at a time - the votes are counted and recorded in the lower corner of the board. The selected book turns out to be a collection of Russian fairy tales. The artist asks the assistant secretary to write on the board large under the number 1 - "Russian fairy tales".

Then the host takes the books to the table and takes four envelopes there. Coming to the forefront and unfolding the envelopes like a fan, he shows them to the public. Following this, the performer takes out a red square of colored paper from one envelope and, turning and showing both sides of it, hides it back; from the second envelope he takes out a blue square of paper, from the third - green, from the fourth - yellow. Having mixed the envelopes, the artist offers the audience one of the envelopes to choose from. Since the opinions of those present again do not agree, the matter is again decided by a vote. The envelope is selected, it contains a blue square of paper. The assistant secretary writes on the board under the number 2 - "Square blue." The envelopes are taken to the table, and the magician descends into the auditorium, where he asks those present to lend him money. There are usually a lot of offers, the artist takes a three-ruble bill and returns to the stage. He gives the money to the assistant and asks him to write down on the board under the number 3 the denomination of the bill, its series, and also the number. He writes - three rubles, series HL, No. 3257718.

Taking a deck of cards and taking money with him, the artist again goes to the public. He returns three rubles to their owner, and then, approaching three spectators in turn, he gives each of them to draw one card from the deck that he holds in his hands, and asks to keep these cards until the end of the trick, without showing them to him. Putting the remaining deck in his pocket, the presenter goes on stage. He asks his assistant secretary not to write anything down yet, but leave space under the numbers 4, 5, 6 for a note to be made later.

The performer goes to the working table, puts the remaining cards on it and takes the black folder lying there. With it, he goes to the forefront and, opening it, takes out a dozen and a half postcards. Having unfolded the postcards in front of the audience, he shows them. These are various animals and birds. After putting the postcards back into the folder and closing it, the illusionist once again descends into the hall, approaches one of those present, opens the folder and invites him to choose one of the postcards that lie face down. The viewer pulls out a postcard with the image of a bear, everyone present can see it. After thanking the viewer, the artist takes a postcard from him, shows it and asks to write it on the board under the number 7 - "Bear". Having laid the postcards and closed the folder, the magician takes it to his work table.

Approaching the ramp, the leader addresses those who keep three cards drawn from the deck. He asks them to stand up and hold up the cards so that they can be seen by the spectators sitting behind them. Then the illusionist orders his second assistant to open the envelope and read the letter in it. He himself goes to the blackboard, picking up the chalk.

"Dear viewers!

I think that you will not be very surprised by my foresight, for that is why I am a magician. This letter was written long before we met, but I foresaw that:

1. Of the three books offered to you, you will certainly choose "Russian Fairy Tales".

2. Of the four colored squares, you will definitely choose the blue square.

3. That you will offer me a three-ruble bill of the HL series, No. 3257718.

4-5-6. I also knew in advance that the cards you chose from the deck would be the seven wines, the jack of clubs and the king of tambourines. (The artist manages to write on the board with chalk the name of the selected cards a little earlier than the assistant reading the letter calls them).

7. I also knew that out of all the postcards offered to you, the one on which the bear is depicted will be chosen.

Such accurate foresight makes a stunning impression on the audience.

The artist thanks his assistants, and they descend into the hall. The spectators return the three cards they had. This concludes our session.

Focus Secrets:

This performance does not require the master to master the complex art of manipulation, and the apparatus for it is not difficult to manufacture. However, with the artistic performance of tricks, their success with the public can hardly be overestimated. A very great advantage of this performance is the direct participation in it of the spectators present in the hall.

Now let's explain how the illusionist managed to guess in advance all the objects that the audience "chosen" itself. The books offered for selection by the audience have one secret. If you open them on the one hand, they are all different in content, and if on the other hand, then they will all be "Russian Fairy Tales", that is, we have two books in each binding at the same time, this can be seen from fig. 94, A. Thus, the result of the "choice" was not difficult to "foresee". However, the simplicity of the secrets of this performance should not confuse you, since it is difficult for the audience to unravel them on their own, especially during the performance.

Focus Session of foresight (several tricks)
Fig. 94

Envelopes containing multi-colored squares of paper also had their own secret. Figure 94, B shows a general view and a schematic section of such an envelope-package; it can be seen from the section that two sheets of paper can be independently contained in the bag, as indicated by the arrows in the diagram. This is what our illusionist took advantage of; in one of the pockets of each bag he put a blue paper square, and in the others - multi-colored squares. Thus, he had the opportunity to show multi-colored sheets of paper, and then turned the packages upside down and offered any of them to choose from, but now he took out only a blue sheet of paper from the packages. So here, too, the "choice" was a foregone conclusion.

Of the many banknotes offered to the audience, the magician did not accidentally choose a three-ruble bill. The fact is that he had his own three-rouble note palmed in his hand, with which he replaced the money taken from the public when he went on stage. This is the whole secret. If you have a scoop-ladle, which we described in the session with money, then it is better to do the substitution of banknotes with its help - it looks impressive.

As for the three cards taken by the audience from the deck, you probably already guessed - the deck was forced, three-layered (you are already familiar with it).

Looking closely at figure 94, B, you will understand that the folder in which the postcards are located is somewhat unusual. It consists of two folders glued together with their backs. In order for the audience not to unravel the secret, after gluing the folders, the valves are glued in pairs with solid sheets of black paper, and the covers of the folders are also glued. In one folder, the illusionist placed 12 bear postcards face down and closed it; then, turning it over, he opened another compartment (the second folder) and put 12-15 postcards with various animals and birds there. From this half of the folder he starts showing the focus, and then, closing the folder, he descends into the hall. When he invites the viewer to "choose" one of the postcards, he holds open the folder in front of him, in which there are postcards only with the image of a bear.

As you can see, everything was thought out and predetermined by the illusionist in advance, and the "independent choice" given to the public was forced.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

space wine 07.08.2017

Over the past few years, we have watched NASA astronauts on the International Space Station not only grow food in space, but also taste the harvest. The success of this event has led some experts to ask when can we expect the first harvest of space wine?

According to scientist Joy Massa, who works on the plant production system at NASA, growing wine grapes in space is an interesting challenge. In the near future, experts want to try growing dwarf fruit trees in space, and it is possible that dwarf vines will be tested after them in the future.

Space plants need to be very compact as there is a problem getting enough light. Another major problem is pollination. Gioia Massa says astronauts will be trying to pollinate dwarf tomatoes by hand next year, and the method could also be applied to grapes.

However, growing grapes is only part of the wine production process. Fermentation in space is another complex issue facing scientists. Joya Massa believes that turning sugars into alcohol in space is not science fiction, and a microbial bioreactor could be developed to produce wine in space that would allow fermentation and other processes to take place in microgravity.

The potential for growing grapes in space is that they won't be affected by typical plant diseases or bacteria.
