Servants are of various types. Here we will talk about some of them.

On fig. 3, A shows a sideboard for cards. It consists of a rectangular frame 12x20 cm, two hanging bars, to which are attached clips-holders for decks of cards. A bag made of thin material is sewn to the frame, the depth of the bag is 8-10 cm. Through the holes in the pendants, using small screws, the sideboard is screwed to the table or back of the chair. When the magician needs to exchange a deck of cards, he imperceptibly throws it into the bag and takes another from the clip. He does the same when decks of cards “suddenly appear” or suddenly “disappear” in his hands.

The base of the sideboard can be made of iron strips, they are connected by soldering or rivets. The holders are certainly made of spring steel, which must first be released, and after the holders are made, it must be hardened again. In our opinion, the best material that replaces metal is plexiglass - it is much easier to process, has sufficient elasticity, and parts made from it are firmly connected with glue. Plexiglass is easily sawn, cut, planed, drilled, freely bends in hot water, taking any shape, and retains them after cooling. Glued with plexiglass dichloroethane. We recommend using this material in the manufacture of other devices and devices.

On fig. 3, B you see a sideboard holder for a ball. It is made from two thin plexiglass strips, respectively curved in the shape of a ball. One of the strips is somewhat longer than the other, due to this, a small ring is made in the middle of it, which can be clearly seen in the figure. The strips are glued together crosswise. An elastic band is attached to the ring, which is usually used for ladies' hats (so that the wind does not rip them off the head). These elastic bands are thin and strong enough; it is better for us to take an elastic band with a black winding - it will be less noticeable. A safety pin (the so-called "English") is attached to the opposite end of the elastic. If you attach the pin to the armhole of your jacket sleeve from the lining side, take the sideboard-holder in the palms of your outstretched hands, insert the ball into the holder, and then unclench your palms, the ball will “disappear”, the elastic will instantly pull it under the lining - for this, the length of the elastic should correspond to the length your hands. The holder can also be made from an old clock spring, but it must first be released and re-hardened after the holder is made.

On fig. 3, B is given a sideboard for balls made of plexiglass, and in fig. 3, G - from steel wire. They are worn on the trouser belt from the back and are hidden from the audience by the magician's jacket. At the right moment, the artist imperceptibly takes the balls from them in his hand, and if necessary, he hides them there.

You can see a very simple and convenient sideboard-holder for balls in fig. 3, E. Two iron rings, corresponding to the size of your ball, are screwed to a safety pin with a thin copper wire, then this fastening is carefully soldered with tin - so the rings are securely connected to the pin. The angle formed by the rings should be such that the ball can easily fit between them and hold securely there. Such sideboards are pinned directly to the lining of the jacket from the back.

A sideboard for a large ball or ball is shown in fig. 3, E. Its device is clear from the figure. Using a small metal clamp, it is attached to the sideboard shelf that is on your table, or directly to the table.

In the manufacture of sideboards and other devices, our advice should not hinder your own initiative and ingenuity. The more independence you show in doing so, the better.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

HDDs are getting worse 03.02.2013

TrendFocus analysts studied the HDD market situation in the fourth quarter of 2012 and concluded that HDD sales in this quarter decreased compared to the third quarter. While retail and external drive sales were good, shipments of 2,5-inch models were noticeably slower.

Drives for desktop systems and consumer electronics in the three months from October to December were shipped 55 million units. Although the situation in this segment is more or less stable, TrendFocus experts predict a gradual decrease in shipments due to the migration of users from desktop PCs to laptops.

Notebook makers have largely run out of inventory, reducing shipments of 2,5-inch HDDs from 75 million to 67 million. Analysts said the release of Windows 8 failed to stimulate demand for laptops, and sales of ultrabooks continue to be "disappointing". Thin and light laptops will prevail only in a year or two, and the next recovery in the HDD market for laptops is not expected until the second half of 2013, when the traditional boom associated with the approach of the new school year should begin. The seasonal rise of the end of the year can take over from him.

In the corporate segment, sales slightly increased and amounted to 14 million units. By the end of 2012, manufacturers had almost used up the stocks accumulated in the first half of the year, but the unfavorable macroeconomic situation will constrain demand in the first half of 2013.

TrendFocus considers Western Digital to be the market leader with approximately 60 million drives shipped during the quarter, down only 3% from the third quarter. In the desktop segment, this manufacturer was able to increase shipments from 21 million units to 24 million units, but the supply of 2,5-inch drives, on the contrary, decreased from 32 million units to 29 million units. Deliveries in the corporate segment remained almost unchanged at 6,5 million drives. In second place - Seagate with 58 million drives (about the same as in the third quarter), in third - Toshiba with 18 million.
