Stay with your nose

Proverbs and sayings
Proverbs and sayings

Phraseologism: Stay with your nose.

Meaning: Fail, let yourself be fooled.

Origin: The nose in this expression does not mean at all a part of the face, as you might think, it is a verbal noun from the verb to bear. According to one version, this refers to the nose that the groom, according to ancient custom, brought to the bride's parents (ie, "offering", "gift", "ransom"). If the groom was refused, the gift was rejected, then the groom remained "with a nose." According to another version (however, close to the first), the word nose is used here in the meaning of "offering", "bribe". In this case, to stay with the nose meant "to leave with an unaccepted offering, a bribe, to leave without an agreement."

Random phraseology:

Cry (cry) into a vest.

Meaning:

Complain to someone about your bitter fate, looking for sympathy, support (joking iron.).

Origin:

It came from the habit of those complaining about fate to fall, crying, to the chest (or shoulder) of the person from whom they seek sympathy.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Unlock Knock smartphones LG 05.01.2014

LG Electronics Corporation has announced that the Knock feature (formerly known as KnockON), which was originally used in flagship-level mobile devices, will become standard on phones from the LG L Series II line. This will happen in January.

The Knock option is designed to conveniently turn the gadget on and off by double tapping on the screen. It first appeared in the LG G2 model, in which the volume keys and the power button are located in an unusual place - on the back of the device.

Then Knock migrated to the LG G Pad 8.3 tablet and the LG G Flex smartphone with a flexible body and self-healing coating. In early 2014, L Series II phone users will be able to wake up the screen and put their devices to sleep by double-tapping the display.

"Knock is part of the LG UX interface and a great example of what happens when the latest mobile technology and consumer desires come together. No one ever thought that the power button needed to be improved. But our engineers wondered why not turn the entire screen into large key to turn the device on or off," said Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications.
