Focus Description:

The assistant brings a light wooden table onto the stage with a handkerchief on it. He puts a table in front of a performer who talks about spiritualists, about how they deceive gullible people at their sessions, how their tables knock, and immediately declares that although he has nothing to do with spiritualists, but thanks to eight years of intensive training can show really interesting things with this table.

Having shown that the table is empty, the illusionist places his right hand on the table and slowly raises it. The table rises with the arm.

The assistant, holding a handkerchief in his hands, looks in surprise and spreads his hands in bewilderment.

- Eight years, - says the performer and moves away from the table. - It is very difficult. Eight years of training. If you want, I can repeat.

During these words, the assistant, winking at the audience, covers the table with a handkerchief and, moving away, says, smiling to the audience:

- Eight years!

The performer, approaching the table, is clearly embarrassed by the fact that the table is covered with a scarf. He puts his hand on the handkerchief and, repeating: "Eight years," also raises the table after the hand (Fig. 98). Shaking the table in the air, he puts it on the floor, removes his hand and pulls the handkerchief, saying: "Eight years." Bows out. At this time, the assistant, putting his hand on the table, also raises it and, carrying it backstage on his arm, says with a laugh: "Eight years!" The illusionist does not notice this and, bowing, repeats: "Eight years."

Note. This number should be performed as seriously as possible. The more serious the illusionist is, the more fun the number will be. The assistant should be ironic about this trick, but without showing it to the performer.

Props:

A light, round, small wooden table with a chiseled leg, into which a special device for the ring is embedded.

Ring on the middle finger of the right hand for the performer and a ring for the assistant.

A thin silk handkerchief of such a size that it covers the entire top board of the table and hangs down on the sides.

Number secret:

The secret of the number is in the bracket C that slides out in the center of the table (Fig. 113). It passes into the ring, put on the middle finger of the performer's right hand, and the table behind this bracket rises.

The whole mechanics of the table with the upward bracket C is shown in fig. 113, A. Shown here in section is a device that is cut into the table; B - top plate with three holes for fastening with screws to the table; B - side view. The whole mechanism is easy to do for the amateur; it consists of six parts:

1) brass tube 10-13 mm in diameter and 7-8 cm long;

2) upper plate B with a diameter of approximately 4-5 cm and a thickness of 1-2 mm; three holes in it are countersunk for screws, in the middle there is a quadrangular hole, into which bracket C fits flush;

3) a spring put on the rod of bracket C; with one end of the spring rests against the plate B, with the other end against the circle-bottom D, which is soldered to the rod and freely walks inside the tube;

4) brackets C with a rod having a hole on the side for screwing in a button K with a pin;

5) buttons K with a pin, which is screwed into the rod of the bracket C. The purpose of this button is to lift the bracket-pin C. To move up this button, a longitudinal cut is cut in the pipe, along which the pin with the K button moves. The cut is made of such a length, so that bracket C can rise 6 - 9 mm above bar B;

6) mug-bottom D, soldered to the rod of the bracket C and not allowing it to deviate to the side. The circle itself should easily, without friction, walk inside the tube.

The entire fixture is imperceptibly built into the top side of the table board, screwed with three screws and carefully painted over to match the color of the table so that the viewer cannot notice anything. A hole is cut in the leg of the table the same length as on the side, in the tube. Through this hole, the button pin K is screwed into the rod.

All simple mechanics are ready.

Before starting, the operation of the spring and rod is carefully checked. The performer puts a ring on the middle finger of the right hand (you can use a copper imitation of a wedding ring) and puts his hand on the table so that the ring is at the open end of the bracket. Supporting the table with his left hand, he imperceptibly raises the button K up and inserts the protruding bracket into the ring. When this is done, the left hand is removed, and the performer, making passes in the air with it, as if helps to raise the table up. At this time, the ends of the fingers of the right hand are slightly bent, resting against the board, firmly holding the bracket inside the ring and balancing the table in the hand. Raising your right hand, you raise the table.

In order to discreetly remove the bracket from the ring, you again take the table with your left hand, and at this time remove the right hand from the bracket and quietly lower it, continuing to keep your left hand on the table. Then, after you remove your left hand, slowly remove your right.

Never look at the table or at your hands while you work.

Having covered the table with a handkerchief, do exactly the same as it has just been described, only a little more training is required so that, together with the handkerchief, you can slip the bracket into the ring.

When you have finished demonstrating the handkerchief trick, quietly carefully iron the handkerchief with your right hand, and then, removing it, slowly pull the handkerchief off the table with your left.

This trick is taken seriously by the audience at first, and then, after it is exposed, the audience laughs merrily at the performer, who, "not knowing" the reason for the laughter, continues to be very concentrated and businesslike.

Ocean floor cleaning robots 07.09.2020

We have all seen the scary pictures of the huge amount of debris on the surface of the oceans. Experts say that there is much more waste on the seabed. To solve this problem, the SeaClear project, funded by the European Union, is developing underwater robots that will clean up garbage autonomously.

The system will consist of four robotic vehicles: an aerial drone, two underwater remotely operated robots (ROVs) and an unmanned vessel that will serve as a "mother ship". Through special cables, the vessel will supply power to two ROVs.

It is planned that the system will initially be deployed in coastal areas, since it is in these places that most of the underwater debris that enters the seas through rivers.

Special modules based on artificial intelligence will be built into the ROV. So the robot will be able to distinguish garbage from marine animals, plants and corals. The system will perform its work in two stages. First, an aerial drone and one of the robots will look for debris on the surface of the water and in the water column, experts say that if debris is present in both of these areas, then it is likely that they are present in abundance on the seabed.

Having found pollution, the second robot will sink to the bottom and collect debris using a suction device. After the ROV returns to the surface, the debris from its container will be disposed of.

The prototype SeaClear has already been tested this spring at depths of 20 to 30 meters in the port of Hamburg and along the coast of Dubrovnik. These places were chosen because they are very different from each other. The port is busy, industrial and has muddy waters, while the Croatian coast is much calmer with clear waters and tourist oriented.
