EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES The appearance of a dove from an empty box. Focus secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: You show a rectangular box without a bottom and a lid, put your hand through it (Fig. 64), thereby proving that the box is completely empty.
Putting it on the table, take a sheet of paper, cover the box with it and put on a metal quadrangular hoop on top, which will pull the paper tightly. Then turn the box over, cover the other side with paper and put on the second quadrangular hoop. Thus, you have a box tightened on both sides. You break through the paper - and a dove flies out of the box (Fig. 65).
Then you break through the paper from the other side and show that the box is empty and has no fixtures (Fig. 66). Instead of a dove, the performer can take out any things at will.
Props: Box with folding flap, without bottom and lid. Height 22 cm and width of each side 15 cm. Two metal square hoops that are loosely put on the top and bottom of the box. Their width is 2 cm, and the upper rim is 1 cm. The hoops are shown in fig. 64. Two sheets of thick paper measuring 22x22 cm. Charging - a dove or various things: silk, scarves, flowers, etc. Focus secret: When the box is shown "empty", the charge is inside it and is hidden behind a folding valve, which, leaning back in width, takes no more than 7 cm. Passing his hand through the "empty" box, the performer inserts the palm of his right hand from the side on which the bottom is located valve, and with his left hand presses it up against the wall of the box so that the dove does not fly out. Showing the box empty, he pulls out his right hand and puts the box on the table with the valve up, which he holds with his left hand. He covers the box with paper, releasing the valve, and immediately puts a hoop over the paper. Supporting the paper with his left hand so that the dove does not tear it, he turns the box over and puts a second hoop on it. Now it remains only to lift the box, break through the paper and release the dove It will turn out very well if, having tightened both ends with paper, the performer can quickly draw a flying dove on the paper with charcoal, and then, breaking through the paper, release a live bird. Making a box is not difficult. It can be made from thick tin or thin plywood. Paint the inner walls with black paint, and paint the outer walls with oil varnish paints. The valve is also made of tin or plywood and painted black. Its size is the same as the wall to which it adjoins. On fig. 77 shows a diagram of a box with valve C, which should easily, without friction, go from wall C to B.
From below, a bottom made of a thick double cloth, painted black, is attached to the valve. It is attached on one side to the bottom edge of the valve, and on the other side to the bottom side of the box. This bottom D can be folded inward along the line D (valve K will come close to the wall), and when the dove flies out, the box can be shown empty (see Fig. 66). You need to show it to the public with the upper edge of the valve: then it will not be noticeable behind the hoop. Place the loop plates inside the linen double bottom. With their help, it will be easy for you to fold the bottom in half with a fold inward. They will not allow the bottom to bend down, which is very important for this trick. To prevent the valve from falling out, thin metal pins are soldered to its lower edge, which can slide between two strips soldered to the bottom edge of the box, guiding and limiting the movement of the valve. When demonstrating the number, you should slowly, calmly - show the box "empty" at first, although it will already be loaded with a dove. Then, tightening it on both sides with paper, also slowly move away from the table, calmly show the box and, returning, draw a dove. Then quickly pick up the box and, breaking through the paper, release the bird. On the way to the table, break through the second side of the paper, properly straighten the valve and fold it. After that, once again showing the box to the audience, put it on the table and move on to the next number, which will require the illusionist to have a different pace of performance.
