Focus Description:

You take a large needle from the table, go to the audience and show it. When you return, you place the needle on the table and take a silk ribbon rolled into a roll like a serpentine. Then throw the roll into the audience, holding one end of the tape. Again, slowly lift the needle from the table and thread the ribbon through it.

An assistant comes out from behind the scenes. Approaching her, you quickly pierce the assistant’s body with a needle and pull the tape through it (Fig. 61). An assistant comes out and, together with you, pulls the tape back and forth several times. The assistant goes backstage, completely stitched with tape.

Props:

Steel needle 70-75 cm long, about 1,5 cm thick (the thickness of the needle should correspond to the width of the steel tape, which we will discuss below)

An imitation needle (Fig. 74, A) is made from the tape of a steel tape measure. Such roulettes are available for sale. The tape is easily removed from them and stays straight without bending. Cut a piece of the required length, make one end look like the point of a needle, and round the other and drill a hole in it for a satin ribbon. Learn to hold this imitation needle so that it does not bend. Viewers should also not notice that the "needle" is flat. Some performers, even professionals, hold the ends of the needle with both hands. We do not recommend doing this, as it may arouse suspicion among viewers. It is best to hold the “needle” in the palm of your left hand by its middle, making sure that it does not bend.

Corset-case (Fig. 74, B). It is placed around the assistant's waist and tied with a ribbon passed through the ears. The case is made according to the shape of the figure so that it easily goes around the waist and has smooth, regular curves.

It is best to make a corset from a copper tube, which is compressed to make it flat and then bent to give the desired shape. It is even easier to solder a case made of thick tin. The width of the hole in the case is no more than 5 mm. To prevent the corset from bending, the top and bottom are made of a double layer of tin.

Particular care should be taken to bend all the bends so that when pierced with a “needle” (Fig. 75, B), it seems that the “needle” is going straight through the body. In Fig. 75, G the dotted line shows the path of the “needle” in the case.

For the number you will also need a satin ribbon of any color, 4-5 cm wide and 2 m long.

Focus secret:

The audience is first shown a real steel needle. After this, the performer places it behind a cover on the table (sticks, boxes, or a deep fold of the tablecloth can serve as cover) and from there takes out an imitation needle, shows it with the wide side to the audience so that they are convinced that it is a real needle (some professional artists do not show a real needle, but they come out straight with an imitation. We do not recommend doing this). After this, taking the imitation needle with your left hand, not far from its blunt end, thread a satin ribbon into the “needle”, move your left hand to the middle, and lower the end with the ribbon down. The assistant puts on a “corset” under the dress in advance.

The inlet and outlet openings of the "corset" must be draped with a frill or pleat.

The illusionist, approaching the assistant, takes the “needle” near the sharp end with his left hand, smoothly inserts it inside the “corset” and advances it, moving his hands. When the "needle" reaches the exit hole, he adjusts the folds at the back, allowing the "needle" to come out easily.

The “needle” passes as if through the body. The assistant, smoothly turning, shows that both ends of the “needle” stick out from her body. Having pulled out the “needle”, the performer pulls out the end of the tape from it and quickly gives it to the assistant, who, unnoticed on the table, exchanges it for the real one. This is in case the audience decides to ask to see the needle again.

The illusionist calls an assistant and together with him fearlessly pulls the tape back and forth several times. The assistant goes backstage with the ribbon pulled “through her.”

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Hydrogen gas station 16.10.2003

The world's first gas station that sells not gasoline, but hydrogen, has opened in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland.

So far, however, in this island nation of about 280 thousand inhabitants, there are only four consumers of a new type of fuel: an experimental model of a hydrogen Mercedes and three Daimler-Chrysler buses, also experimental. The first mass-produced hydrogen-powered cars may appear in 2005.
