Focus Description:

Four matches are placed on the table in a row, three of them have their heads turned in one direction, and the fourth, to distinguish it from the rest, in the opposite direction. The magician stands with his back to the audience, and one of those present rearranges the matches, at first glance, in a completely arbitrary way. Still not turning to the audience, the artist asks to remove first one match, then another and, finally, the third, thus leaving only one match on the table, And this remaining match is sure to be turned!

This trick can be repeated many times and will always succeed. It can be shown on any four objects, so we describe it in this section, and not where tricks with matches are.

Focus secret:

Label the positions of the matches or objects on the table with the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4. Ask someone to point to one of these objects. Before you turn your back to the audience, remember his position. Now ask them to make five permutations, while swapping the selected item with the adjacent one. If an object located at one of the ends was indicated, then, of course, the first permutation can be performed in a unique way; if not the extreme object was indicated, then it can be rearranged either with the right neighboring object, or with the left one.

Since the spectator does not tell the showman how he swaps the objects, the impression may arise that after a given number of permutations, the chosen object can take any place in the row. However, it is not. For example, if the specified item occupied the 2nd or 4th (i.e. even) place, then after five permutations it can end up either in the 1st or in the 3rd (i.e. odd) place. On the contrary, if we start from 1st or 3rd place, then we will come to 2nd or 4th. With an odd number of permutations, this will always be the case.

In our example, we suggested five permutations, but we could have assigned seven or, say, twenty-nine (any odd number) permutations. We could also set an even number of permutations, but in this case the chosen object would end up in an even place if it was in an even place at the beginning, or in an odd place if it was in the same place at the beginning. The question of the number of permutations can be decided by the viewer himself, although, of course, he must tell you this number. You can also, rearranging objects, spell your first and last name.

After the permutations are completed, you must indicate to the viewer in what order he must remove the three items one by one so that the fourth chosen one remains on the table.

If you know that the specified item may end up in 1st or 8th place after the end of the movement, then first ask to remove the item in 4th place. Then ask the viewer to swap the selected item with the adjacent one. As a result of this last permutation, the object indicated to you will always be the middle of the three remaining. Now it is no longer difficult to leave an object chosen by the viewer on the table.

If, on the contrary, the final position of the specified object can be 2nd or 4th, then the object located in the 1st place should be removed first, and everything else happens in the same way.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food.
