Recently, in pop music, a guitar "wow" effect is often used, which is formed automatically (only once with each string pluck, duration 0,1 s or more). One of the options for such a "wow" prefix is described below. In addition, it provides, in addition to automatic and conventional control (foot pedal). The input voltage of the set-top box is at least 40 mV, the duration of the effect in automatic mode is from 0,1 s. Current consumption - 3,3 mA.

The controlled RC filter (see diagram) is assembled on transistors V3, V6 and has no special features. Automatic control unit, made on transistors V1, V2, V7. V8, V10, works as follows. The pickup signal from the electric guitar is amplified by the input amplifier (V1, V2), rectified (by diodes V4. V5) and fed to a waiting multivibrator on transistors V7, V8. As a result of its operation, a pulse with an amplitude of 8 V and a duration of 1,2 s is formed on the collector of transistor V0,1. This voltage is supplied through the circuit C11V9C12R17C13 to the base of the transistor V10. As a result, the resistance of this transistor changes and, accordingly, the quasi-resonance frequency of the controlled filter.

Diode V9 prevents the timing capacitors C12 and C14 from discharging through the open transistor V8. Switch S1 transfers the console from automatic operation to pedal control. The tuning organ in the pedal is a variable resistor R13. Switch S2 changes the duration of the effect, which is determined by the values of the capacitors C12, C14. Transistors V1 and V2 must have a static current transfer ratio of at least 60.

Setting up the set-top box begins with setting the transistor mode of the controlled filter, for which switch S1 is set to the "Pedal" position. Resistor R5 is selected so that the emitter of transistor V6 has a constant voltage of 4 ... 5 V. Check the operation of the console from the pedal.

By switching the switch to the "Auto" position, the optimal sensitivity of the control unit is set with the tuning resistor R2 and the capacitor C6 is selected. The normal operation of the unit corresponds to the absence of repeated operations and the clear operation of the set-top box in the entire frequency range of the guitar.

When using the described device in conjunction with the "phase" prefix, the signal from the guitar is fed to the input of the "phase" prefix. the input of the "wow" prefix is connected to its output. Resistor R2 "wow-prefix in this case should be unsoldered from the input and connected directly to the input of the "phase" prefix.
