Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

Do crocodiles attack humans?

You must have seen in the movies a crocodile lurking in the water and local residents fleeing from it. Are crocodiles really that dangerous to people passing by?

Whatever you say, it's true: crocodiles kill more people than all other animals, with the possible exception of the cobra. Some species, such as the African saltwater crocodile, actually feed on humans. Local residents, like many animals living in those places, are afraid of these reptiles. Some bloodthirsty individuals attack not only a person passing by them, but can run after him on the ground, grab their prey and return with it to the water.

Alligators and crocodiles are direct descendants of ancient dinosaurs - huge lizards, 24 meters long, that inhabited the Earth many centuries ago.

Nowadays, alligators and crocodiles are the largest of modern reptiles, some individuals reach a length of 7 meters. They belong to the same family and are very similar to each other. But there is a difference: the alligator has a wide, flat head - instead of the narrow and pointed, characteristic of the crocodile. Alligators are usually heavier and less active than crocodiles.

They spend most of their time in the water with their nostrils, eyes, and part of their back exposed. Reptile babies hatch from white oval eggs. The female lays 20 to 90 eggs in a nest of leaves, which is located on the ground. Here the sun bakes them.

The mother waits nearby to help her offspring out. Most reptiles cannot make a single sound, but crocodiles and alligators are capable of producing a low, drawn-out roar.

Alligators live only in warm parts of America and China, while crocodiles live in Africa, Asia, Australia and America. About 100 years ago, alligator skin was discovered to make excellent handbags, wallets, belts, and shoes. As a result, the alligator is now a rare animal.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Biometric bank card Mastercard 29.04.2017

The Mastercard payment system has introduced a new generation biometric bank card. The innovative card combines an EMV chip and fingerprint recognition technology. This allows its holder to verify their identity in a convenient and secure way when making purchases at retail outlets.

The innovative biometric cards are designed using fingerprint recognition technology, which is already being used for smartphone payments. They can be used in any POS terminal that accepts cards with an EMV chip.

The holder draws up a card by registering his fingerprint with a credit institution. After that, an encrypted digital fingerprint is created and stored on the card. The biometric card can be used worldwide in any POS terminal that accepts cards with an EMV chip.

When paying for goods or services, a biometric card works in the same way as any other. It must be inserted into the terminal and put a finger on the sensor built into it in order to compare the print with the sample stored in the card. If they match, the transaction will be confirmed. Thus, the card does not leave the hands of its holder.

Authenticating a transaction with biometrics - in this case, a fingerprint - is a unique way to confirm that the card is in the hands of its holder.

Points of sale can easily improve the quality of customer service, because biometric cards work with already installed terminals without additional updates.

For issuers, biometric identification will help recognize and prevent fraudulent activity, increase the percentage of approved transactions, reduce operating costs and maintain customer loyalty. In addition, biometric cards will be issued with contactless payment technology, which will make shopping even easier and more convenient.
