Focus Description:

The spectator selects a card from a fan deck and returns it to its place. The magician and the spectator remove the cards several times; the magician turns over the cards in turn and reveals the chosen card - but continues to deal in order to catch the reckless spectator.

Focus secret:

1. Give the deck to a friend and ask them to shuffle it. Let's call him Timothy.

2. Take the deck back so you can quickly look at the bottom card.

3. Expand the deck and ask Timothy to take a card, look at it and remember. While he is doing this, fold the deck and ask Timofey to return the card to the top of the deck, face down.

4. Perform the removal of cards lying under the Timothy card in the middle of the deck (but directly under the card you looked at). Ask Timothy to remove the deck as well. Ask the rest of the audience, if any, to remove the deck. No matter how many times the deck is removed, the Timothy card remains under your marker card. Now tell Timothy that you will find him his map.

5. Holding the deck face down in your left hand, begin turning over the cards one at a time and placing them on the table. As soon as your marker card appears, you will know that Timothy's card is next. Nevertheless, do not interrupt the deal - deal after Timothy's card about six more cards.

6. Then suddenly stop holding the next card in your hand as if you knew it was Timothy's card. Tell him: "I bet five that the next card I turn over will be yours." Since Timothy has already seen his card on the table, he will most likely agree to the bet. You put the card in your hand back into the deck and return to Timothy's card, turning it face down, much to Timothy's chagrin and everyone's surprise.

This trick used to be used by scammers to deprive a dupe of his money.
