Focus Description:

From the shuffled deck, the spectator takes a card and places it on top of the deck, which is shuffled again and removed. The magician removes the deck until he finds an inverted four of tambourines, which he throws on the table. The spectator objects that this is not his card.

The magician says that the four simply says that four cards must be counted, which he does by placing them in a row on the table. He turns over the fifth card, which turns out to be the one that the spectator guessed. He turns over four cards on the table, which turn out to be four aces.

Props:

A specially crafted deck.

Focus secret:

You need to start this trick with a deck composed as follows: there are four aces at the bottom, followed by a four of diamonds face up.

1. Make several fake shuffles, keeping the five cards at the bottom of the deck in their original position.

2. Now fan out the cards and ask someone in the audience, let's say Max, to take one. When unfolding the cards in a fan, keep the bottom cards unopened in the left hand to be sure that he does not choose any card from the bottom five and does not see the reversed four of diamonds.

3. When Max chooses a card, ask him to show it to the others and memorize it. Let's say it's the king of spades. Fold the cards and ask Max to put the card back on top of the deck so you can't see it. Remove the cards so that Max's card is under the aces, and all the cards appearing in the focus (there are six of them now) lie together, closer to the middle of the deck.

4. Now tell Max, "Now I'm going to do something really amazing: I'm going to discover your card by making it turn over and lay face up in the deck."

5. Slowly fan out the cards until you reach the four of diamonds, face up. Place on the table the part of the deck that lay above the four, then put the four of diamonds and say: "Here it is, the four of diamonds."

Look pleased until Max says: "No, it's not her. You made a mistake."

6. Smile and say, "No, you're right. I didn't say it was your card, did I? The four of diamonds just tells me to count four cards." Lay the next four cards in a row on the table face down and turn over the fifth face up. "I claim that this is your card." Max must agree.

7. Say, "I knew you made the King of Spades." And then add, as if thinking, "After all, it couldn't have been one of those cards, could it?" - and turn over the four cards lying face down - these are, as we know, four aces.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

SHARP DV-HRW30 - VHS VCR, DVD and HDD recorder 28.06.2004

Sharp Corporation demonstrated the DV-HRW30 video recorder. Due to the abundance of electronics, cassette mechanisms and DVD transport, the recorder turned out to be large, or to be more precise - 430x377x100 mm.

Its mass is also not small - 7,2 kg. In the "bowels" of the DV-HRW30 "lies" a DVD-R/RW recorder with the ability to read DVD+R/RW discs, a VHS player, and an 80 GB hard drive designed to record video from TV and other video sources (you can record a maximum of up to 100 hours of video).

To connect external components, there are analog audio and composite inputs; composite, stereo, D2, S-Video, coaxial and optical outputs.
