EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Jumping jacks. Focus secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: The four jacks are shown to the public and placed face down on the table. The magician places three of them in different places on the deck. Each time, the jack jumps from one place to another with a click. When the last jack is placed in the deck, he rolls and turns face up. Focus secret: 1. Fan out the deck, face up, and throw the four jacks on the table for all to see. 2. Turn the deck over in your hand and, picking up the jacks with your right hand, place them face up on top of the deck. Fan them out and show the audience holding them in your left hand with the rest of the deck behind them; the top two or three face-down cards are also slightly fanned out. This will allow you to make a gap between the first and second face-down cards with your left little finger. 3. Align the deck again, bringing the gap to the right thumb, and at the same time raise the four jacks along with the top face-down card behind them. This is a double lift option. You now have five cards in your right hand, which you must hold in your lowered palm. Be careful not to let the spectators see the bottom card of the five, face down. 4. While doing all this, tell the audience that jacks are also known cheats and love to play pranks. Say, "Have you heard of the jumping jack? I'm going to demonstrate it to you with these little scammers." 5. Return the cards you are holding in your right hand to the deck as follows. Holding the deck in the dealing position in your left hand and the jacks in your right hand, push the first jack in the stack with your left thumb so that it partially covers the main deck. Name his value and suit ("This is our jack of spades") and with the help of the cards in your right hand, turn him over onto the deck face down. This technique is shown in the Four Aces trick. Do the same with the next two jacks. When you get to the fourth jack (with the card face down underneath), simply place it face up on the deck (holding the hidden card underneath), announce the suit of the jack, and then turn it over. Now at the top of the deck are a jack, an ordinary card, a jack, a jack, a jack. 6. Now tell the audience that you are going to lay four jacks face down on the table. Of course, one of the four cards is not a jack - it must be the fourth in a row. So, put the first card a little to the right of you on the table, the second card (not the jack) a little to the right of the first. Then, as if you were too far to the right, as if for symmetry, put the third card to the left of the first, and the fourth to the left of it. 7. Say, "Now I'm going to make them jump! Let's take the first jack. I'll put it on the bottom of the pack, like this." Put the deck on the last jack on the left and pick up the whole deck again. Flip through the deck and turn over the top card. This is, of course, a jack. Say, "Yeah, just like I thought, he jumped right to the top of the deck!" Take this jack and place it face up on the table, starting a new row. 8. Take the second card from the table without showing the audience its face. Place it face down on top of the deck. Flip through the cards and say, "I wouldn't be surprised if this one doesn't jump straight down." Take the deck in your right hand, turn it over and take it back in your left hand. Take the opened jack and place it face up behind the other face up jack. 9. Take the third card, which is face down on the table, and say: "I will place this jack in the middle of the deck. If he manages to jump from there, he is truly a nimble fellow." Hold the deck in your left hand at eye level, holding it by the sides between the tip of your thumb and the tips of the remaining outstretched fingers, so that the audience can see that you are placing the jack in the middle. Some may forget that the deck is actually face up. When you have done this, use your thumb to turn the deck over while letting it fall into your palm. Flip through the deck, now face down, and say: "Let's see if he managed to jump from there to the top." Turn over the top card - and it will again be a jack. Say, "I told you, these guys' cunning knows no bounds." 10. Saying, "Let's see what surprise the last jack has in store for us," pick up the last face-down card, which, as you know, is certainly not a jack. Raise the face-down deck in your left hand again to eye level and place the last card in the middle of the deck. This time you can tilt the deck towards the audience so they can see the back of the cards and that the inside card is also face down like the rest. 11. Putting the deck back in the palm of your hand, flip through it and say: "Did this jack jump up?" - and turn over the top card. It's not a jack. Put it back. "Maybe he's downstairs?" Flip the deck. "No, and he's not here either. Where is he then?" Fan out the cards face up so that their face is visible to the audience. The card is face down in the center. Say, "Could it be a jack?" - and pull out the card, showing its face to the audience. This is indeed the last jack. Say, "Well, that was indeed a miracle of dexterity. The little rogue did a somersault. Yes, you won't get bored with these jacks!"
