Focus Description:

You have a "magic wand" in your hand. A barely noticeable wave - and instead of it, there is already a candle in the hand. It remains only to light the wick and show the candle to the audience (Fig. a).

Focus secret:

The secret of the focus is hidden in a specially made "magic wand". It is a transparent plexiglass tube with closed ends. Inside - top and bottom - two thirds of the tube are painted white. Inside the tube, another exactly the same tube moves freely - it is one third shorter than the outer one. One half of the short tube is painted - but on the outside - white, the other - black (Fig. b).

If the inner tube is at the bottom, then black is visible through the transparent middle part of the outer tube, and the entire tube seems to be a "magic wand". It is necessary, when swinging, to turn the tube imperceptibly with the lower end up, as the inner tube inside the outer one will move to the opposite end and white color will be visible from the outside. The black color will be hidden under the white. Blending together, the whites on the outside will appear to be the solid white of the candle.

So how do you make a candle burn? To do this, it is necessary to make a small hole at one of its closed ends (located at the bottom) into which to insert a short piece of a wick from a real candle (Fig. c). It is worth when he is at the top, bring a match to him - and the candle will light up.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Phone glove 28.06.2013

British designer Sean Miles, in collaboration with mobile operator O2, presented a glove that is also a headset for a mobile phone, writes Pocket-lint. A speaker is built into the thumb of the glove, and a microphone is built into the little finger. By connecting the glove to a smartphone via Bluetooth and folding the fingers accordingly, the user can make a telephone conversation.

The electronic components placed in the glove Miles borrowed from disused mobile phones. The gloves themselves were taken from the old collections of Miu Miu and Pineider brands.

The headset glove became part of the Talk to the Hand project, which aims to draw attention to the problem of recycling old phones. According to O2, there are 70 million unused mobile phones in the UK alone, and that number is increasing by another XNUMX million every year.

Miles has combined wardrobe items with mobile phones before. In February 2013, he built old Nokia and LG phones into women's shoes and rubber boots.
